Getting into fistfights as a teen in the late 70s (long before kicking someone in the face while they were unconscious on the ground became the norm) wasn't violent. It just happened. I won some, I lost some. Those were the times.

Again, where I grew up it was all kids of Irish, Italian, and French-Canadian descent.

(on his first day at school, my dad, who didn't speak much english, punched a kid in the face because he didn't understand what he was saying and assumed he was making fun of him - true story!)

There were fights weekly at least at my high schools. They were commonplace and violent at the same time.
