From my perspective, you started a thread to mock Whiskey's posts, and Whiskey didn't enjoy the "joke." And so, as I will always do when I see someone mocked, I came to Whiskey's defense. I voted "1 million" in your poll.

Janszoon's analogy to moderators being bartenders who give harsh words to belligerent drunks doesn't seem to match Whiskey's situation here at MB, since all Whiskey was doing "wrong" was starting polls that you happened to find boring, Vanilla.

Perhaps there was some "backstory" I didn't know about in Whiskey's case, as Janszoon suggested; however, that doesn't change my view that I feel mods should not start threads to mock members, regardless of those members' actions.

In my eyes, Whiskey was an innocent patron of MusicBanter's bar, and you went out of your way to mock him or her. And not one moderator, as far as I've seen, has stood up in Whiskey's defense.

I think many members of the moderator team here are so used to this mocking, belittling way of treating people at MB that they have created a "culture" encouraging it. Since you are part of that culture and are used to it, you probably can't see it like an outsider might.

I notice you don't take kindly to my criticism of how you and other mods sometimes handle situations, Vanilla. Can you imagine, then, how Whiskey would feel, arriving at MB one morning and seeing the thread you created about *his* contributions to the site?

Whiskey's response to my post in which I came to her or his defense in your thread that made fun of Whiskey's polls makes me glad I stood up for her or him, because Whiskey appreciated my support at the time. If you don't understand why your thread was hurtful, I wish you would, Vanilla.

Whiskey's reply to me in your thread:

First of all, thanks for the sympathy and appreciation that you show towards this issue.

Secondly, you're right....I shouldnt take these kind of things personally. Its sometimes difficult to do so, especially when its many people trying to mock you at the same time(like in this thread), but I still manage to do it.

Honestly, ever since I joined this forum Ive had a strong feeling that nobody likes me. Sure a "wow you're so cool whiskey" kind of comments here and there, but other than that, I felt like nobody cares about me and regard me as a pathetic troll that only tries to cause problems on the forum with his polls and awkward replies to threads. Obviously these things are not true at all, and Ive never tried to cause problems on the forum at all from the very first moment that I joined here. I truly want everyone to understand that, and I hope Im clear enough about this right now.

If I had to judge myself, I'd say Im probably a gift from heaven to this forum for deciding to join, as Im posting actively everyday and contributing significantly to the forum in various ways. So instead of mocking me, the moderators need to appreciate that.
^ This is the backstory I saw about Whiskey: Whiskey actively posted almost every day and contributed significantly to the forum in various ways.

If moderators feel annoyed by a member, starting a thread as you did, Vanilla, to mock the member isn't a constructive, helpful, or kind response. I also feel it is not the kind of moderation I'd like to see at MusicBanter and it isn't even moderation! It's...starting a thread to make fun of someone. :/

Dude it was a light hearted thread and Whiskey said that he didn't take it to be a big deal. It was in the games forum for **** sake. You don't need to defend people all the time because people can fight the battles all the same. Not that it was. Notice how they thread derailed into an intense one once you sunk your teeth into it?

I get it, my name is Vanilla, would you like a picture to go with it?

After you arrived with your lecture he asked to be banned.

I'm never going to give into your ideals because you've come into threads before all guns blazing. The mods have said to you to lighten up, so why don't you? I've been around the block on many forums for 10 years and know the difference between malicious mocking to light-hearted banter.

Not sure if you can hear me up on your high horse or not, but yes there was indeed a "backstory". Some of it is not stuff you would have seen and some of it was right out in the open on the forums here. Which means you either deliberately chose to ignore it, or more likely, just decided for the umpteenth time that you should launch into lecture mode without bothering to establish any kind of frame of reference.

I think Erica's got a point. You start a mock/parody thread; if the person you're mocking does not find it funny, then it was mean and you shouldn't have, mod or not. Particularly not mods.

If he's a problem, deal with it in a mature manner.

Yeah, funny that.
Do you really think we all woke up one day & decided to hate on the guy?
Are you really that naive?

You really have no clue how this place needs to be run. You can be nice to people until you are blue in the face sometimes and it makes no difference, sometimes the only solution is to descend to their level. You don't like it , I don't like it. But in a lot of cases it's the only thing these people understand.

And lets not pretend that thread was anything malicious, that guy loved the attention. As proved when he got all upset with me for closing other threads that were about him.

Mod club still defending each other, protecting their circle of smug while a few betas suck their teets.

Basically, no surprises for me. Carry on folks.
