"I don't know" is the most honest answer here, I think, and the one I chose. I'd very much like there to be some sort of afterlife, and I have theories about this and that, but I'll keep them to myself, as I really don't know, and that's all anyone else needs to know.

Well, that option is there more for people who have no idea what could happen after death. Obviously though, we all dont really know what happens after death, we're only guessing. Thats really what I want people to do here.....to throw guesses.

You go back to the earth just as nature intended, whether you get cremater buried - you're still going back to the earth.

In that case, I'm guessing that reincarnation is a big part of our existence.

I'm hoping for a free roam in the cosmos, but I really don't care, this place sucks pretty bad.

i guess we can define life as some form of conciousness (the most close definition i could find), and i believe that some kind of perception will stay with me eternally. not sure what form it will get next time, but i definitely do not believe in the beginning out on nothing, therefore there will be no ending whatsoever.

I think our conscience is switched off and that our bodies lose their finer organization and decompose. The parts that make our bodies can be eaten by other animals, perhaps picked up by fungi, plants, bacteria or other single celled organisms. Or, depending on where you die, perhaps it will be preserved for a long time, f.ex frozen on Antarctica, fossilized in a river bed or mummified in a pyramid.

Something happens to our bodies, but we've lost our ability then to sense, reflect on or experience anything.

I don't think that option is in your poll.

Why would you define life as consciousness? Isn't someone who's brain damaged to the point of justifying being called a vegetable, but who's bodies are still working, alive? Or what about the bacteria in your guts? I'd say yhey're alive and doing a rather important job in your body. Are they conscious?
