General Knowledge Quiz

I love quizzes, so what about this? You can pose any question, on any subject at all, as long as you answer the previous question both correctly and first. Simple, eh?

Here's an easy one to start off with: name the famous, or infamous novel written by Machiaevelli (sp?) which gives the author's name to the practice of believing that the end justifies the means?

Whoever answers that correctly, and first, can pose the next question, and so on.

Cuthbert 02-04-2013 04:58 PM

Good thread idea :)

EDIT - I have removed my guess as I'm sure it's wrong.

EDIT x 2: The Art of War was my guess btw.

Burning Down 02-04-2013 05:07 PM

The Prince.

I just finished reading it for a class and writing a paper on it. Do I ask a question now or how does this work?

Yep. You got in first, and correctly, so your choice of question. Anything you like, just try to make it not brain-meltingly hard so that some of us have a chance to get it... :)

I have no idea, it's the only Machiavelli affiliated book I've heard of

khfreek 02-05-2013 12:23 AM

Nah man, 23 pairs. 46 chromosomes.

Whiskey 02-05-2013 02:08 AM

Trollheart can you pliz explain how this works exactly because I dont really understand.

Trollheart 02-05-2013 04:31 AM

No.

Seriously? It's as simple as a very simple thing.
Whoever gets the answer to the last question right gets to set the next question. It can be on any subject. If two or more people guess right, the one to get their answer in first gets the opportunity to set the next question.

I really don't see how you can't understand that...

Ah okey I understand now. So khfreek answered correctly and now we need to wait until he asks his question.

Trollheart 02-05-2013 10:25 AM

That's it yup.

To be fair, in case someone answers correctly and then effs off and leaves us all hanging --- or can't get back here for whatever reason --- if there's not a new question within, let's say three hours, someone else can post the next question. It's really not that important who puts questions up, more important to keep this going so people don't get bored waiting. Sound fair?

So time has already run out for KHfreek: anyone who wishes to post a question knock yerselves out! :)

K.

What's the SECOND best selling album of all time (#1 is Thriller and I figured that's a bit too easy)?

Plankton 02-05-2013 10:28 AM

AC/DC Back in Black

khfreek 02-05-2013 10:30 AM

That is correct Plankton! Go ahead

Plankton 02-05-2013 10:32 AM

Originally, what three songs made up the Fear Trilogy?

The Batlord 02-05-2013 11:45 AM

Part I: "The Enemy Within", Part II: "The Weapon", and Part III: "Witch Hunt".

What was the name of the secret society that assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand?

Plankton 02-05-2013 11:47 AM

Phew! Thought that might have been a thread killa.

It's called Wikipedia.

Plankton 02-05-2013 11:52 AM

Was gonna ask which one you used, Goog, or Wiki.

Young Bosnia.

What are the names of the French islands located off the coast of Newfoundland?

Huh. The answer was actually supposed to be the Black Hand, but apparently they were linked. Learn something new everyday.

Unknown Soldier 02-05-2013 11:59 AM

Am I missing the point here, but can't we just cheat and google the answer if we don't know it? Or are we trusting that everybody doesn't cheat and uses their brain?

BTW I can't think of the name of those islands, but what I do remember is that one of the classic Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films of the 1940s took place on one of those French islands, or in fact it could've been the mainland:)

Trollheart 02-05-2013 01:37 PM

As in just about everything on the net, US, you can cheat. If you want to. But I'd hope people don't as that spoils the fun. Either way I don't really care, because the point of the thread is to keep the questions flying, and if someone can only get the answer by cheating, well all I can say is I'm not Jeremy Paxman, so cheat away.

Personally though, if I don't know it I won't look it up. I like my answers to be honest and from my own knowledge.

That said, I don't know those islands --- not great with geography.

I pretty good on geography, but who's going to remember some frozen islands off the coast Canada.

You're right it is St.Pierre something or other. I determined not to cheat here.

My history textbook (yeah, I finally put it to good use lol), says that Princip was actually rejected by the Black Hand (actually the Serbian guerrilla and a secret operation of the Serbian Army) and instead joined up with the Young Bosnia movement. But both groups were based in Belgrade and Young Bosnia was actually being assisted by the Black Hand. So you're also right.

OK no-one got that so BD please give us the answer.

For now, I'll get the ball re-rolling with this one:

In what city does the statue of Christ the Redeemer stand, looking out over the city?

Simple, yes, but we need to move this along.

misspoptart 02-06-2013 03:40 AM

Rio de Janeiro!

Whiskey 02-06-2013 04:50 AM

Rio De janeiro, though Im probably late. What a pity, I have such a good question to ask here.
