There's a college here that gives all their students such a big discount on Apple computers that they actually end up cheaper than their Windows counterparts. For students who don't have a whole lot of money, getting any computer for the lowest possible price is the best thing in the world.

Ah, they don't do that here. Here they just say 'we give classes in final cut pro'.
And this is only available for... Apple Mac OS. FCP is almost the same as Adobe Premiere Pro. It has been developed by the same people. Despite that, files aren't interchangable. So there you go, she bought a 3000 dollar Apple Macbook pro just so she could use Final Cut Pro... Woohoo :S.

I don't blame the Dells, Acers, Gateways, and all those guys. It's not their fault that they can put low-standard, low-cost hardware in a case, stamp a logo on it, and ignorant masses give them money for it. They're actually the smart ones. They know they can charge so much for a product so inferior, so consistently, that people will consider it the norm. Quite genius, if you ask me. |

I must say my experience with Dell is rather good. But then I have only owned their more expensive (business) machines.
You rarely see gateways here. Acer just sucks. Altough I recently got an acer laptop for free at a thrift store (the guy was about to dump it there, we interrupted him) that still had two (!) 500gb hard drives and 4 (2x2)GB of Ram in it. It was a dualcore machine so that's just great. I was there with another friend so we both got one drive and 2gb of ram. But that's still great. Even altough it's an acer. The guy who gave it to us used to own a computershop. He had an entire trailer full of **** he had to get rid of because he was moving to Germany. This is a case of 'pics or it didn't happen'. Well we were with the Skoda of another friend and we filled it to the brim: Here's a picture after we emptied the car There was the acer laptop, two Pentium IV PC's (2.4 and 2.8ghz), some spare parts of a modern age toshiba notebook, six new wireless adsl routers. There a couple of them that can be used as a file and webserver when you plug in an USB stick or USB harddrive. We're busy flashing their rom now so we can use them as such, there were two new philips surround sets. Crappy, but still nice to get for free. Sure I can make someone happy with those at some point. A nice 80's philips amplifier with a reasonably good set of speakers, a cambridge soundworks speakerset, a Yamaha MSX midi computer, a Goldstar MSX 1 computer, a box full of network cables, plugs, wallboxes, whatever. Switches, usb hubs, mouses, keyboards, new software (antivirus, nero 7), some laptop keyboards... Most of this I wouldn't buy myself, but it's great when you get it for free

Actually, the top half of the netherlands is sinking.
We will soon have Tilburg at sea. And Tilburg is far from sea now

Haha, to be honest, if it doesn't say Fujitsu Siemens or Dell or whatever, people won't even pay 25 bucks for it. I am trying to give away a Pentium IV 2.6ghz right now. I had to clock it down because it became unstable so I'm not going to ask money for it. But no one wants it. Dammit .
I know this guy that practically gives at least a dollar for everything you give him. So it's never hard to get rid of free stuff
