They are definitely trying to convince everyone that if you have an apple, you have to buy apple stuff for it to work as good as possible. I'd call that a nice combination between advertising, lying and brainwashing.

Brainwashing, really? I haven't heard any reports of Apple subjecting people to torture, isolation or any other brainwashing technique but maybe I've just been reading the wrong newspapers.

Well not literally then obviously. But they make people believe stuff that isn't true, force them to buy stuff at apple stores to keep their warranty, altough it's the same and they somehow do it in such a way that most apple owners don't see their apples as computers anymore, but as babies. It's really terrifying.

So basically they act like a car company. I guess I don't find that particularly terrifying.

Well I should admit, I once bought a car at a car dealer (I usually just buy them from individuals on ebay or such) and err... Never again.
But that's another story.
When you buy a car they don't tell you only to change your tires at their company or you will lose your warranty. Or only to plug in their Mp3 player into the mp3 socket because if you don't, any problem with the socket will be your fault.
