He has worked with several small jazz combos over the years. Now at 45, he is looking for someone to sponsor him in a solo record. Says Shamoon, "I love playing with a band, but I want to try out being something other than an expendable studio musician for once in my life."

Bukowski Fist Records would like to audition Shiloch Shamoo.

That would be fine - I'd be okay with the older members practicing, so long as the younger members will be available to fully flesh out any public performances.

I added a list of performing venues on this thread. You can now choose to tour your artists as well. I will add more formal venues such as concert halls later today, but so far I have posted a list of bars and clubs in MB City.

Shamoo comes to your studio with an incredibly large and complex set of various percussion instruments. He begins with a quick original composition he calls "Oye Voi" on xylophone and marimba. He double mallets the instruments and is able to play both of them at the same time. He follows that up with a more traditional drum solo on his custom kit, which he does not have a name for. Although unremarkable, it shows that he can at least get around on the drums. Next, he plays a slow rendition of the jazz standard "Embraceable You" on vibes, giving it a sultry and chilled feel. Right after that he goes into a lively and cute rendition of Mozart's "Rondo A La Turk" which gets progressively faster and faster to the point where at the coda his hands appear as a brown blur. You notice a few minor mistakes and note that to your audio engineers. Immediately after that he goes into a haunting rendition of Mark Oldfield's "Tubular Bells", which catches your audio engineers' attention and displays his brevity and ability to play multiple instruments at the same time. However, towards the end of the 15-minute rendition, you begin to grow impatient and weary. Finally he finishes it off with an original composition called "Happily Ever After" which features him on drumset, marimba, vibes, steel drum and xylophone (sometimes all at the same time). It's a bombastic finish to what your engineers call an "imperfect but altogether exhilarating experience". They also note that "we're grading this guy a bit harder because he is not merely a popstar, but a legitimate musician"

I feel like this guy could be a valuable asset. Not commercial, but talented and certainly deserving of representation. I'd also imagine that he'd do quite well as a live act. I'll sign the guy.

He thanks you and proceeds to ask if you can book him a live gig. He says he really enjoys performing before a crowd and he hasn't done it in over 7 years.

New Feature Added: Sabotage!

Alright. To make this game a bit more spontaneous and "intense", I've decided to add sabotage as an option. Here is what you can do to sabotage a rival record company:
  • Hire a sabateur to destroy tapes
  • Hire a vandal to trash a studio
  • Hire a theif to steal tapes
  • Hire a murderer to kill an audio engineer or a band member
  • Hire an investigative journalist to "dig up dirt" on other record companies and their signed artists

Now keep in mind that...
  1. It is very unlikely for you to be successful in these events. Murder is especially unlikely to be pulled off smoothly
  2. There is a fair chance that you will "get caught" in which I will post your evil doings on the forum and you will lose popularity and credibility.

If you would like to do one of these actions, please PM me and tell me what you want to be done. This way the acts stay secret until somebody is either successful or caught.

You can also bribe bands to ditch old labels and join you, but that will easily backfire.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU AVOID THESE ACTIONS MOST OF THE TIME. They are for dire situations only. Please do not abuse them or this thread will become an assassination fest and I will lock the ability to sabotage others.

I'll go ahead and try to book him a gig at The Park, just to start out.

Has Purple Sky returned yet?

Also, I like where this sabotage thing is going *har har..*

I'll put all the odds on the table right now having to do with sabotage so there's no controversy later. I will be using digital dice at random.org to determine the outcome of sabotage.

Destroying tapes:
Success rate: 1 in 10
Getting-caught rate: 1 in 5

Trashing a studio:
Success rate: 1 in 20
Getting-caught rate: 1 in 4

Stealing tapes:
Success rate: 1 in 30
Getting-caught rate: 1 in 5

Bribing a band:
Success rate: 1 in 30
Getting-caught rate: 1 in 4

Diggin' Up Dirt:
Success rate: 1 in 20
Getting-caught rate: 1 in 10

Murder:
Success rate: 1 in 100
Getting-caught rate: 1 in 2

Yay! I'll arrange live dates.

jastrub 11-28-2010 06:32 PM

Sorry I was away for so long. Thanksgiving was in Rural West Verginia this time, and I had no internet.

So, in recent news:

- ViZionARY would like to release their album
- Meiser wonders where you will book them for their live performance
- Shiloc Shamoo's performance at The Park gains a small crowd, albeit no revenue
- The Young Virtuosos perform with their younger members in the studio for the first time
- Evil Monkey wants to record some new tracks in a better quality studio
- The Bass-Holes found a studio and will be leaving the draft pool

storymilo 11-28-2010 09:18 PM

Noooooooo I was just about to audition the Bassholes. Is it alright for one more to join this? If so, Gilded Pimp Studios snatches up Little Miss Prissy and tells her the first step on the road to fame is going by Lil Miss Priss from now on.

jastrub 11-29-2010 05:32 PM

Okay, you know what, b*******s are back in. You can draft them. I just wanted to catalyze the game a little and keep the selection clean, but you can draft them. Just PLEASE RESPOND in the next 24 hours if possible

storymilo 11-29-2010 06:53 PM

Yessir I'll give em an audition. This leaves Little Miss Prissy out there for the taking I guess.... for now.

jastrub 12-01-2010 05:30 PM

Meiser released an album on Monday:

Album name: Meiser II

Notable Cuts:

- Unbottled Water
- Christmas in a Sweatshop
- Like a Thunder Bolt
- The Agenda Pt. III
- Burn Baby Burn
- Road Queen Blues

Sales: Poor
Profit/Expenditure ratio: 1.1 (Opening week failed... barely made it, but revenue is still coming in)
Critical reviews: Fair
Press attention: Nominal

jastrub 12-01-2010 05:30 PM

Sweet Georgia Breezes has completed most of an album and wonders what your audio engineers think of the songs on it. There's some potential for a single, but Sweet Georgia Breezes has not commented on whether they would like one to be released.

jastrub 12-01-2010 05:31 PM

Evil Monkey is anxious to crank out a new single. They ask you about how/when you want them to do so.

The Bass-holes walk in. The three members, plus an engineer carrying a large array of woofers, tweeters, computers and keyboards (The bass holes do not play instruments themselves except for on certain tracks like Wocka Wocka)

They perform a lot of moderately-funky novelty rap songs while wearing their preposterous cheesecloths-draped-from-sombreros masks. The first three, "We Are Wild", "Make Ya Move" and "Freakit" are all along these lines. Next, they play a slow ballad number called "Behind the Mask". Although the lyrics could potentially be moving, the wavering nasily out-of-range vocals and the ultra cheesy 80's piano-pop instrumentals leave your engineers snickering. Next they perform "Wocca Wocca", a silly but catchy funk tune where they display their musical talent, as low-class as it might be. Next is their hit, Bass-Hole Bop, which is a nearly perfect rendition and which your engineers praise for being a "studio double". Then, after they had left you impressed, they come out with one of the worst pieces of music you have ever heard. "Kool Kidz" is a cheesy, synthy pop number which romanticizes the materialism and superficiality of middle-class teen life. Your engineers describe it as "We Built This City" without the soul. Then they dance about and do a brief rap, which they call "Woofers N Tweeters". After the audition they leave a business card on your desk and promptly leave.

storymilo 12-01-2010 05:56 PM

I sign them immediately. I tell them to give me demos of their 5 favorite songs and I'll give them a space to record three.

jastrub 02-04-2011 02:47 PM

Does anybody want to rekindle this thread or is it dead?

James 02-05-2011 02:20 AM

I do!
