Nirvana are... okay.
Pearl Jam however are woeful.
The Smashing Pumpkins aren't really grunge, that guitar tone isn't Grunge - Grunge was more of a sound I think, Brit Pop was more of a movement. The Smashing Pumpkins were just around when Grunge was going on.
Soundgarden and Mudhoney meh.
Alice In Chains aren't bad.

I've only heard Congregation, didn't particularly enjoy it but it was a while ago.
