for me, as a gay man, a lady boner means when i get really excited or horny but i don't have an erection. it usually happens most of the time. i just feel like my heart is pumping really fast.

At least in America it's very offensive. There is a history of comedy theater in America during the late 1800s, early 1900s where white men would wear black face and play heavily stereotyped black men (lazy, stupid, cowardly, scheming, etc) for the amusement of white audiences.

i thought the Black & White Minstrels were quite good, though - some Aussie television show popular in the 70s
