Can Women Be Funny?

Obviously women can be funny, but I think they're definitely better at some forms of comedy than others.

Like others, I've never seen a funny stand-up comedian women. Anyone got any recommendations?

But you will find funny women on SNL and some TV shows

I think, yes, absolutely women can be funny. I'd say I easily know as many funny women as I know funny men and the funniest person out of all my friends is female. That said, I do think there's a huge disparity as far as actual comedians go. There are certainly some hysterically funny female performers out there, Tina Fey for example, but I think the majority of the greats, an the majority of comedians overall, are male.

Yeah, it's also because more men try to be funny that more men fail at it.

I'd say women and men are pretty evenly split there.

Absolutely not. There are more male comedians than female comedians so just plain statistics should dicate that indeed, there are more sh*tty male comedians than sh*tty female ones. Because there are more sh*tty comedians than good ones in general.

I wasn't talking about comedians specifically, I was talking about the general population.

Oh, you may be right then.

But I don't think pointing out that there are more funny male comedians than female proves that men are funnier, it just means that more men choose that occupation. The same way more men choose to be musicians which is why it's stupid to think men are somehow more naturally proficient at musical instruments than women.

You could look at it this and you may even have a point. I personally could also look at it from the point of view that regardless of how many they are in comparison to men, I have never found a female stand-up comedian to be very funny.
