Just because I said men can seem like mindless slaves doesn't mean that women can't be, also. And looking at the militaries around the world, isn't it TRUE that there are MORE men in positions of power than women??? I suspect many women want equal authority, privilege, AND treatment, assuming the treatment is respectful and considerate, which is what I'd hope for all people. Doesn't he shave his legs already?? Yes they can but the humour is generally different and what a man finds funny is not near what a woman finds funny.
As for instant replies and wit I think men hold the upper hand just because Humour has become a defence mechanism over the years and a man who can make people laugh is respected regardles of his general characteristics. Women however bite harder through humour and cut to the point more even though it can be perceived as a little more malicious, even if it's unintentional. One thing that hasn't been talked about much is that Men generally (if they vaguely know each other) can rip the piss out of each other and take it in good heart but the reverse is rare. Men are much more thick skinned especially regarding their own sex regarding humour whereas women seem to take offence at throwaway remarks. Call a man ugly (from another man) and he will retort and it's all good but if a woman makes similar remarks to their own sex and all hell breaks loose

I think everything you said is true. Women are definitely much more defensive and that's a trait that I've always shared with them.
My humor is quite malicious in nature, and a lot of guys seem to hate that kinda humor so I've coped with the fact that my jokes here aren't greeted with a lot of laughing smilies. I don't believe there are superior or inferior types of humor only different perspectives and it's much easier to find something funny when you understand why it's funny. If men prefer men's humor it's because they understand the perspectives of men and if they don't find women's humor funny it's because they don't understand the perspectives of women. The media is dominated by men so why male comedians are favored is not a mystery. |

I agree with Jack about men ripping the piss out each other and it being acceptable, and women generally stay away from that line. Which is why I think my friends and I are very different. That's generally the way we speak to each other. For instance, I get away with murder with my friends. I generally get on very well with men, (not blowing my own trumpet here) but I find it effortless to make my friends laugh. Which may be hard to believe (i dont think I portray my humour on the net well ) but I genuinely do.

Another reason I get along with women better is because I feel they are more considerate about the feelings of others, joking around with guys for me increases the probability that someone will hurt my feelings. I know they don't necessarily do it out of malice but they're more careless.
Not that women can't be spiteful bitches I know that can be the case, and when a woman says/does something hurtful to me it affects me harder than it would if it was a guy. |
