Lord, if using girl is offensive then I should really watch the way I refer to people...

Look harder then.

If women want to not shave their body hair, dress like guys, not wear bras or deodorant, get guy haircuts and grow a moustache that's fine. But when they villify women for "living up to man's idealism" I think that is morally repulsive and mostly just a cover for bitter jealously.

I believe in freedom of choice and this is something you have to believe in order to be a true feminist. Feminism is not imperialism.

Yeah, but what does VANILLA want? Maybe she wants to be called a "girl." Maybe she wants to be called a "woman." Maybe she wants to be a "girlam" or a "womirl!" Do we know for sure?

Woe be to the clueless man who says "girl" instead of "woman" without checking first!!!...boy.

I...I've never heard of "bint" before. Or a "womble," which sounds like a weeble wooble. It is hard to be offended by things I don't understand.

That is true.

But they can do that without viciously attacking women who don't share their ideals.

What you seem to be referring to are feminists who like to go natural, I think you'd be hard pressed to find one that actually thinks women "should be like men". As I said before it's quite the opposite. They feel that women should be like natural women.

Urban Dictionary: bint

English slang for a whore or bitch. Similar to a tart.

or

The Arab meaning of the word "woman" but often used as a sexist term towards women.

So it means woman really.

True as well, but they're not ALL like that. I know of some women who like to be completely natural, yet they'd never attack me for shaving, wearing makeup, never wearing pants etc, because that's my choice as a feminists, and as true feminists they respect that.

When you're a young adult, woman/girl and man/boy are interchangable words. I usually describe males as guys or dudes and females as girls or gals, the latter being a southern thing.

Once you reach a certain age then "man" or "woman" is prefered.
I know you don't use "girl" to be demeaning, boo boo. I was trying to be funny. We discussed the name issue in the "words you hate" thread. I agree most people just say "girl" without thinking anything negative about it...it's just a habit.

However, have you ever heard anyone who respects Hillary Clinton calling her a girl?

And how old does a male have to be before you feel he should be called a "man." Would you really call someone as mature as Urban Hatemonger a boy? If someone at work called you a "boy," wouldn't you be surprised? How old does a female have to be before you call her a girl?

My feeling is that people call boys men as soon as they hit 18, and people refer to females as girls...until they die. There seems to be a slight discrepancy there.

Paloma...it's true, I think whatever you do is fine!
