I don't really like the concept of 'acting your age'. I am eighteen, and that in no way affects the way I act.

Usually when people toss around the whole "acting your age" thing. It is generally to be condescending.

Especially from parents asking why you aren't acting your age.

I agree with your first sentence because that's about societal expectations. But I disagree with your second sentence. Neurotypical individuals are undergoing lots of brain and chemistry changes at your age. Frontal lobe myelination is still completing, sexual identity is manifesting and these carry real behavioral consequences with them.

That's not to say it's always automatically bad behavior or that you will act like every other 18 year old, but it certainly has an influence on behavior overall.
