The only Albums that I buy physically are Boxed or limited, collectors edition or anything along those lines.

This would be an example.

I always buy physical albums, though I rip them and listen to them digitally. I just spent so much on my collection that I want to keep adding to it, besides there being no better way to buy music at the moment.

I have a CD collection of about 100 albums which contains all my favourite rock/alternative/heavy metal etc music which suits me. The only artist I bought recently in hard copy was Lady Gaga because I'm obsessed with her sound and needed to pre-order it.

It's not that I want to rip anyone off but I really don't have room to cart around hundreds of CD's which is what it turns into.

Lately I've been purchasing most of my music off iTunes. I find it to be a lot cheaper than buying the hardcopy album in most cases, and a lot more convenient (doing it from your own home and receiving the music immediately). I'm wondering too if it's better for the environment as you're not also purchasing packaging, CD leaflets, CD case, etc. But then again the iTunes server has to be running 24/7...

There are certain groups for which you just need to buy the physical album (such as Tool - gotta have the artwork). So much of the experience is in the artwork.

I've been buying a lot of cds this year. One of my local record stores expanded their used cd section and every time i go in there i find some really cool stuff costing next to nothing, i always end up getting something even though i didn't intend to

I kind of regret that it's so easy to download albums now.
I used to love the anticipation of hearing about an album and going to the shop and finding it, buying it with hard-earned money, unwrapping it and inhaling that new album smell (yes, I used to sniff the booklets) and eagerly reading the album booklet while jamming the CD for the very first time.
Now days, I'm too money-conscious and I'll only buy an album if I absolutely like it... so I download it first to be sure. After that, the anticipation is gone and all you have is the new album smell.
And it doesn't even smell as good when you know what the songs sound like, for some reason.

One thing I want to get back into is vinyl collecting. Before, it was because I did the DJ thing, but when I gave that up and sold all my stuff... I noticed how much I missed finding vinyl and taking care of it.
I'll probably end up getting a decent table and start collecting rare vinyl and make it a slow but long-term hobby.

Charity shops=win. Money goes to a charity. You get an album at a fraction of the price and you are recycling! You can't always find good stuff but the odd gem pop's up and there is nothing like having a physical copy in your hands.

Yeah true... I buy SO much stuff at charity shops (clothes, furniture, basically everything) but I can NEVER find any good CDs. And the one time I did find an album I was after, it was scratched and didn't work :/

I only buy vinyls.

I normally head over to a local record shop to buy records I already have in mind. Or head over to Half Priced Books and browse their limited selection of vinyls and buy whichever records interest me the most. I've recently found some Simon & Garfunkel at H.P.B. I'm thinking about heading back and picking up some of the Mamas and Papas and Beegees. Ha!
