99% of what I owned before last Summer was hard stuff, but then two things happened... I bought my first mp3 player, and I got introduced to torrents. I was late to both of those games. A year ago I got made fun of for rockin' a CD player in class- dude's like "Woah, CD player? Really? What is this, '99?". I didn't even know they were considered out of date. Since then I've probably picked up 100 albums, maybe 10 of which are CDs.

I probably own a physical copy of my top 50 favorite albums- I like supporting the artists... Even if they don't see much profit from the medium, it's there in the numbers. Sales numbers have value. And it at least makes me feel like I'm showing love. I'll even go buy a CD a year after I downloaded it, just because....

All of my music makes its way onto the computer, I just skip the middle man most of the time.

I WOULD buy CDs if I felt they were worth the overpricing, but most of my weekly salary that doesn't go into savings goes into 1) petrol and 2) DVDs, which I much prefer collecting (Though they can be similarly overpriced).

Maybe one day I will have that incination, but nowadays 18 bucks for a CD doesn't seem worth it. Got one nice mass-supplier in the city that sells a lot of classic old albums (Your Nick Cave's, Leonard Cohen's, Church's et al) for 10 bucks a pop, which is nice, but more often than not I don't have an inclination to buy these albums, especially when his stock is relatively small and I already have most of it.

Most CDs I would really want can only be purchased online, and then you have douchebag sellers charging 12 bucks P&H for Australia.

Most of my listening happens at the computer, and for my car CD player, I burn a CD. my Car CD player can play MP3s, so I can have 7+ albums on the CD more often than not, which is a **** load better than having to stop to change CDs all the time.

I too can relate to that. I may not have nice racks of CDs, but I have a huge amount of music on my comp (and I keep a backup of course), all well tagged and meticulously organized in folders and yeah, I think that's something to be proud of I mean - the amount of hours I've spent so far on that collection can be summarized in days.

I did that, but I still have all the booklets & inlay cards packed away in a box.

I have a mix of vinyl, CD's, and downloads. Probably about 45% vinyl, 45% CD's and 10% downloads. The downloads are increasing as my CD buying decreases. I rarely buy any music in a retail store anymore, instead, I prefer to attend record and CD shows. Most of the vinyl at the shows, is priced between $3 and $5 per LP and the CD's are usually $4 to $5 each. Most of it is used, but in NM condition and sometimes you can find new unopened LP's and CD's in the same price range. You can also find rare material at the shows, but it is priced considerably higher.

I have about 30 CDs, but 3000+ songs, so. I have a list of approx. 50 more albums I look forward to purchasing, but I mostly download to test waters, then spend money afterward.

nowadays I only buy some albums, since I already own a ton of albums that really aren't worth buying. I would kill to have some that aren't available anymore.
