Well, cassettes have some pretty big downsides to them, but I prefer old fashioned reel to reel tapes to CD's. When used correctly, there's no way a CD can get close to a tape .

Tape dees nuts to ya chin!

It would have worked better if you had said CDs. Then it would be "CDs nuts bitch!"

Hahaha, you were waiting for my answer just to make that joke?
Sorry dude, I think CD is the worst mass produced medium for audio that there has ever been. It's very convenient, indeed, but it isn't really an improvement to what we had before that (tape, vinyl). Except for the hiss/crackle obviously. But as far as it comes to the music itself, I don't like CD's too much.
Doesn't keep me from upgrading my CD player every now and then, though

Indeed. CDs just sound flat and ****ty. The only thing worse are mp3s. It bugs the **** out of me when friends tell me that I'm full of **** when I say that vinyl sounds better. Just because you have bad hearing don't just assume that I'm a snob.

I should add that 'digital' as such isn't so bad. It's just CD that has a lot of limitations.
And truth be told, it's not easy to set your record player up just right. So a CD is often a lot more convenient.
Ah well, at some point we will all be using flash drives (and vinyl, I guess) so we can choose our quality ourselves. It is a nice idea, bit boring, but very practical.

I download, usually.

But I might start buying more CDs in the future.

My vinyls don't sound better than my digital files because they generally pop and hiss more. It might take a lot of money and fiddling around before that stops being a problem, so when someone makes the sweeping claim that LPs are better, I generally think that opinion is not very well reflected. There are a lot more things bottlenecking the sound quality of your record player. For example scratches in your LPs, blunt or dirty stylus, not the right weight setting on the player arm, the general quality of your record player, etc. etc. etc.

If you have an awesome setup and LPs in mint condition; good for you, but most people don't.

I don't mind the hiss. I just think the sound is more...warm I guess. Digital just sounds flatter to me. It's not something that really bugs me, but when I listen to vinyl, it just sounds better to me.
