Because English is the most screwed up and inconsistent language of them all.

That reminded me of a conv. with my mum last year

Mum (to me on the phone): Oh please dear, be careful on the road. Don't drive fast, the road is blocked by traffic.

Me: Huh?!

well she was trying to mix some facts with her usual sentences on the phone (e.g. Be careful, don't be late, don't drive fast ...). Sometimes the fact is "It's raining" or "the car might slip on the road", which usually works ... but the one above was only confusing.

Lol, noted! My mom does it too... and sometimes it's like... "What? ... Maybe you should stop talking about now" lol
