Perhaps you should consider the size of the armies and how well equipped they were (or unequipped, in the case of the Soviet Union).
Plus, the United States had to finish off the Japs. And we all know that they were far more vicious of fighters than the Germans |

Wasn't it Patton who wanted to take on the Russians because the Russians were eying China up for an invasion.
Supposedly one of the reasons why you nuked Japan. A show of strength to Russia. ?not sure 100%? |
