You have a level of logic on base of that of a 4 year old. Yes, Paris Hilton is stupid, congratulations - your power of observation is matched only by the power of your wit and outshined by your merciless tact. Do we want to play - "Point Out the Individual and Base the Entire Country's Collective Attributions On Them" ? I don't think you do. Plus, how many Americans do you know personally? Every American I know, and I do know a few, knows where London is located. In fact, most of them can talk about it quite intelligently and at some length. How many Brits do you know that can talk about Washington D.C., beyond the point where they know that's where our capitol is and that there is a large White House there? Do the majority of Brits know which two states D.C. sits between? Serious question - I'm not assuming - I'm really asking this. Have your observation powers clued you into where this might be going? Do not be a fool. Paris Hilton is not every American, in fact most of us despise her. If you judge the ignorance of a country's people based on the antics of a spoon-fed moron - then you are truly the ignorant one... that being said... Piss off, wanker. |

It's really not fair to stereotype a whole country based on one really lame example of a human, I agree. But I also don't think it's fair how some people think that everyone in Ireland is an alcoholic...
I like Britain, it has some very pretty places. I'd love to live in England some day.

and asking between which states washington is situated is like asking you in which county ( or other adminstrative unit that exists in england) london is situated. noone cares, we only look at the country as a hole, and most people know a hellova lot about the states. that being said, i think it's very hypocritical of anyone to call the yanks stupid or ignorant. most nations on a whole are stupid and ignorant simply because the majority of the the people in this world are not very educated and are primarely focused on their own lives and how to get by, rather than knowing in which state washington is. but you do suck in geography, as has been demostrated on this forum ( i'll never forget angie's statement that Cambodia is in Africa )...you should learn that shit in elemetary school.

Once again, you are seeing a very, very small sect of Americans on this forum - most of the people on here are between 13-18, isn't angie like 14? It's easy to point out ignorance because when someone makes a mistake - it's quite apparent, however - when someone is correct about something - one doesn't even notice because it is in our realm of knowledge. It is suffice to say we all are taking for our own educations for granted. Also geography is pretty sketchy subject to judge an American on - we have a lot more country to go over in our schools - America is the 3rd largest country, in landmass, in the world (second to Russia and Canada), England is pretty small - now I've never been to an English school for educational purposes, so I'm not sure how the teaching of geography is run there - but we try to cover our whole nation... and a logical assumption would suggest that the English can cover the whole of their nation, before we can cover the whole of ours. That being said, you get to move on to other countries a lot quicker than we do. I've also heard that "Americans suck at learning languages" - this is false. The people on the European Continent have more of a reason to learn several languages than we do - you can drive for 4 hours and be in a whole other country, the majority of americans cannot drive 4 hours and even be out of their state! Believe you me - if I could drive a few hours and be in Germany, I would be ecstatic! If I lived in England and could travel an hour or two to f*cking Ireland or Scotland or Wales... man I would be in heaven. You have the wonderful ability to see these historically and culturally rich places at a relatively cheap price in a short time.... I get to go to... Nebraska ooo envy. It will cost me 3000 dollars for a round trip ticket to France. |

and you have a point about learning languages, i've learned english out of necessity...it's incredibly difficult to learn a language you're not exposed to on a daily basis ( like i am with english, italian and spanish through tv ) and i don't blame you for not trying....i probably wouldn't either if i lived in ohio. but that's why i consider myself somewhat lucky to have been born in such a small country and with such a culturally diverse television program....i benefited from it immensly.....
