I remember when I, and the family, used to wait eagerly for a new Simpsons episode. Now, it's like "oh a new Simpsons, I might watch that" and usually - although not always - afterwards a roll of the eyes and a "why don't they kill this show now? It's past its best." There are some good ones but I would still have to say that bad ones (of the ones I've seen, and as I say, I no longer watch them religiously) probably outweigh good by about 7-1. Roughly.

Have you been following the most recent season? I agree that it's past its prime, but if you laugh at your own jokes how do the new episodes not make you short of breath? I think they're solid and I'd say that the good:bad ratio is more like 5-1.

How new is new? I think we consider season 23 new? Not sure though. I'd say I laugh the odd time, most of the time though it's either groans or shrugs. I felt Futurama kept pretty fresh right up to the end, but the Simpsons has been going too long; so long now in fact that they're even parodying their own jokes and episodes. I definitely get the impression of a horse struggling up a hill trying to pull a load that has become way too heavy for it, or that it has become too old to haul.

The most recent, as in season 28.

I agree that they aren't making their best episodes anymore, but The Simpsons' low bar is still pretty damn great.

Oh yeah: I see we're getting season 28 this weekend on Sky. Might check it out. But I stand by my comment: most of the newer ones have not been able to hold a candle to earlier episodes/seasons. Interestingly, of all things, Sky are also showing right now season one!

Or not wasting my time with a show that was a dead hooker in a dirty alleyway a decade ago sounds good too. I mean if you know an exact episode or two to try out then go for it, but I'm not going through all of that **** on the odd chance that we actually agree on something for once.

This is kind of where I stand too. It's like the new eps of Family Guy or American Dad: you desperately want them to be good, but it gets to a point where you sit down to watch one and ask yourself beforehand "Why am I doing this? It's going to disappoint?" And it nearly always does.

The LEGO episode was fantastic imo.

EDIT: The Carl episode, too.

That one was garbage. Where they went to Iceland? Give me a break! THAT's what you consider a good current episode? It all fits, now. :rolleyes:
