Hugin and Mugin were goddesses? I just thought they were mystical crows. That's one of the things about Odin I love best. All his schtick seems to be centered around being the smartest guy in the universe -- even to the point of subjecting himself to the torment of being nailed to a tree, and having his eye plucked out just to gain the knowledge and wisdom of the universe (signified by discovering runes, I believe) -- rather than just the most righteous, or the most powerful.
God/Jesus didn't even have to work for his omniscience. He just had it. Odin busted his ass. And he was the god of poetry, which back then basically meant he was the patron of learning, history, and Norse culture.
Idea for a collab journal with TH at some point whenever we fee like it: read Tolkien's The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún and go over it paragraph (stanza?) by paragraph, chapter by chapter. Discussing skaldic verse vs epic verse (I believe this book is in skaldic verse), the differences/similarites between this and the original, the influence the old Norse legends had on LOTR, etc. Could be fun whenever we have the time.
