What if you're working there as opposed to drinking there?

I don't personally care one way or the other, but the pro-banning argument is really more about workers than patrons.

Smoking just bothers me no matter where I am or what I'm doing there. It's gross and I don't know why anyone would want to torture their body like that anyways.

A lot of people go to bars to eat, and it's really hard to eat when there's smoke all around you.

DoctorSoft 07-06-2012 09:00 PM

If you're working you should be darting too, so it's whatevs man.

Naw, but that's a good argument against it I guess. Maybe the law should be you can't go up to the barkeep with a dart lit.

Burning Down 07-06-2012 10:00 PM

This is the first time I have heard of cigarettes being referred to as "darts" and honestly, it's ****ing hilarious

DoctorSoft 07-06-2012 11:44 PM

I find it weird when people call them ***s. Here it's darts or smokes.

Rjinn 07-16-2012 06:32 AM

I can't believe you can still smoke in bars in the US... Or whatever country. That would make my job a whole lot shi ttier.

Can you smoke in the bar or only in the beer garden?

The laws vary from state to state. In some states you can smoke in bars, in most you can't, and the exact details of the bans also vary from state to state.

The Batlord 07-16-2012 09:17 AM

And of course, depending on what bar you go into, they may not even pay attention to the ban. Whenever I go into a bar and see an ashtray on the counter, I shed a tear.

Rjinn 07-16-2012 12:58 PM

I don't think I could ever work in a bar where you could smoke inside. Especially if it were prone to drunktards.

Big Ears 10-14-2012 01:35 PM

As a reformed smoker, I would ban smoking in the middle of the Kalahari desert.

Face 10-15-2012 08:57 AM

Funnily enough, banning smoking indoors is the only reason I've ever smoked.

If you're at a club and everyone/most people I'm with smoke then I'll follow them outside. Then I can either
a) Look on disapprovingly
b) Have a ciggarette with them

In fact, smoke breaks are a great excuse if you don't want to dance/stand in a corner. Plus asking for/lighting a cigarette is a great icebreaker. But I've never had one outside those particular situations, and I say I don't smoke if they ask in normal situations.

Not that I disagree with the ban. Just saying how it does encourage me to smoke every now and then on a night out.

Edit: Just realised my avatar has a cigarette.....I was just looking for a skeptical looking face on google I swear!

Something I've considered, but don't do.

Dude, smoke breaks at work are the best. Especially when you're the only person at work who smokes. Light one up for irresponsibility.

Smokers are the modern day lepers in the UK and are gradually being ostracized from society, that's great I suppose if you don't want to be part of society.

Indeed, especially if you come with a surprise spliff in your carton, that's always either a very terrifying or fantastic experience. I don't take smoke breaks too often, but often enough to where people don't notice when I go out for a smoke break.

Smoke breaks are allowed in most work places though. Especially if there is nothing to do, so it's nothing special here.

Leonarrd 10-20-2012 02:29 AM

Hmm I think smoking is not bad as it is the taste of an individual to live the life with fun and enjoy. So, I am agree with smoking in bars but in the smoking area. I too do the same.

^^^

A name like Rebel Machine and you don't smoke? For shame.

DeadManHBK 05-22-2020 09:03 PM

So I know this is super weird...but I actually enjoy the smell of cigarette smoke...where I grew up, smoking is still allowed in places, so I guess it is a nostalgia thing? I personally don't care, either way. I don't smoke, so it doesn't impact me.

I mean, the stale "after smell" that lingers isn't the nicest - hence why I hate people smoking in my car. But in a public place, where people are regularly smoking, that doesn't really get the chance to happen, so I still don't get it either. lol

The Batlord 05-23-2020 03:23 AM

You can take my smoking sections in restaurants but only the most selfish of yuppies would take my bars too.

OccultHawk 05-23-2020 10:13 AM

I’d be all for the if you don’t like it go somewhere else thing as long as the owner doesn’t have any employees. Workers shouldn’t be exposed to deadly carcinogens.

The Batlord 05-23-2020 12:47 PM

But bars. BARS!!! Taking out the cigarette smoke just makes them smell like stale beer anyway.

Frownland 05-23-2020 01:01 PM

Secondhand smoke sucks even when it's coming off of your own cigarette and the wind carries it. Banning outdoor smoking is whack, take your smoke break outside.

The Batlord 05-23-2020 01:07 PM

I'm gonna file this under "I'm Putting My ****ing Foot Down and Not Giving a **** Because Bars Should Allow Smoking and If You Don't Like It Then Go Drink at Home."

Frownland 05-23-2020 01:36 PM

Until then, stand outside.

That battle has been lost a long time ago, hasn’t it?

The Batlord 05-23-2020 01:40 PM

So has communism's.

Oh look. A smug ex-smoker. Shocking.

Frownland 05-23-2020 01:43 PM

I was smug when I was a smoker too.

The Batlord 05-23-2020 01:51 PM

Don't know why you quit tbh. You'd be better off dead.

OccultHawk 05-23-2020 01:57 PM

It’s also super lame when a bartender dies from second hand smoke cancer

Is that a thing? I've never heard of that being shown to be a thing. You might want to loosen your grip on those pearls.
