There's no government in the western world will outright ban smoking. Smoking in public yes, but never outright. It makes them far too much money.

SittingBehindYou 01-19-2006 04:39 PM

I don't really like smoking either way... anyhwhere public. Its stupid... you're going to die sooner... and worst of all it makes kissing sh!t

Scarlett O'Hara 01-20-2006 03:26 AM

Smokings a waste of time and money.

So no, I prefer non-smoking, which luckly is the law in my country.

So is drinking.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-20-2006 03:44 AM

Drinking is fine in moderation. Wine can be nutritionally benificial if you want to get technical.

Cheese 01-20-2006 03:50 AM

It's still a waste of money

Scarlett O'Hara 01-20-2006 03:59 AM

It's a waste if you get trashed all the time.

Mr Sensitive 01-20-2006 04:49 AM

Smoking is cool, I'm against a ban in public places.

LukeM_UK 01-20-2006 10:22 AM

I don't think it's nice for smokers to push their habit into non-smokers, by choking them with their smoke.

Imonlydancing 01-20-2006 10:26 AM

^ Yeh I agree with that. But if you know there's gonna be a lot of smoke, then just don't go there. *makes no sense* But yes.

Sabgoat 01-20-2006 10:28 AM

becasue it kind of sucks when you don't smoke and other people do, and you stop going to places because people smoke.. you know?

LukeM_UK 01-20-2006 10:32 AM

I don't think that you should have to check if a shop, or a bar, or a pub, is full of smoke before you enter it (for fear of being choked to death) - because there shouldn't be smoke in there in the first place (unless someone's having a barbeque in the back garden!!). And it's a fact that buildings in which people smoke heavily need cleaning and decorating more often than ones that don't. So it costs money, not only to the smokers themselves, but to the people who own the buildings that they spend time in.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-20-2006 11:20 AM

I`m for it & I smoke , I hate smoking indoors.

Reminds me i`m killing myself quicker. I need a breeze.

half_baked87 01-20-2006 12:32 PM

^word, smoking in a completely enclosed space is kinda nauseating. i don't mind smoking indoors, as long as someone cracks a window or something. i think the whole issue would be solved if smoking sections just put in some proper ventilation, it might cost a little more for heating etc, but then everybody's happy.

Muzak Geek 01-20-2006 04:50 PM

I smoke (especially when I drink), so I'm all for smoking wherever (not to mention that I'm from North Carolina where all the cigarettes are made).

I hate it when a city passes a law that prohibits businesses from making their own decision on this subject. If they want to have smoke-filled bar or restaurant, and don't care about turning away or turning off the non-smokers, then they should be able to do that.

This whole discsussion, to me, is a classic case of the government thinking that they know better than the people. "Smoke-free" cities (like Boston, or LA) that have already passes laws like this just piss me off.

That's a sensible thing to do.

Apart from me.... Only kidding. You have some good views. :)

I would be for a smoking ban in public places.

I work in a restuarant/bar and I come home stinking of cigarettes and usually coughing, why should I be punished for earning some money?

Also there is nothing worse than if you are at the front at a gig and the person next to you decides to have a cigarette and there is absolutely no way of getting away from it.

The British Government also disgusts me with trying to fob England off with a partial ban (only banned in places that serve food) whereas Scotland and other areas get a full ban in all public places.

MURDER JUNKIE 01-21-2006 03:57 AM

I smoke therefore the world is my ashtray, however I am semi-considerate and do not smoke in the pediatrics ward of any hospitals :pimp:

[bruise.pristine] 01-21-2006 09:15 AM

People can smoke in McDonalds in Germany. It smells horrid.
Not that it doesn't smell bad anywhere else, but it's the smoke added to the oil and grease and all that jazz.

The Glades is much nicer now it's smoke free.

tdoc210 11-25-2006 04:38 PM

i say... smoke wherever you want to

jibber 11-25-2006 06:37 PM

i'm gonna go with a big nay. thank god calgary is banning smoking in bars starting in 2007. i hate going out and feeling like i have to shower and wash my hair 50 times to get the greasy smoke stink out. one of the things i loved about nz is i could go out to a bar and actually wear the same clothes the next day. here, if i go out, i have to throw my clothes in the washing machine right away when i get home. if i leave them in my room they stink up my entire closet.

gregb 11-25-2006 07:06 PM

personally I hate stinking like cig smoke after a night at the bars

Raine 11-25-2006 10:49 PM

I'm suprised some local and state governments passed this bill.
I personally don't care but if you don't want to breathe it int hent he government should protect that right.

Anyone with any major qualms with it should take it up with their congressman / congresswoman.

Alo 11-26-2006 04:36 AM

If people in restaurants smoke in a special area, you don't even slightly have problems with their smokes. And in bars I can't imagine the smoke could get you annoyed... Is it breathing problems or something? Because I have never had problems with smokers in bars.

DontRunMeOver 11-26-2006 02:00 PM

Some of the time I honestly wonder why smoking in public is more acceptable than masturbating in public, in that they both involve personal sensational pleasure at the annoyance and discomfort of others.

Now, I'm not a fan of either and do neither of them myself... but I percieve the two in a very similar way.

right-track 11-26-2006 02:03 PM

I'm a fan of both...but not at the same time. :)

swim 11-26-2006 02:04 PM

Lol, You masterbate in public?

:(

DontRunMeOver 11-26-2006 02:05 PM

Am I the only person who has made this connection before?

If there are smoking booths, why are there not wanking booths? Or designated self-stimulation areas? More people masturbate than smoke

So does whistling to yourself. I guess we should ban that as well.

right-track 11-26-2006 02:07 PM

And chatting shit.

Wait, so you're allowed to masturbate in public where you are?

Laces Out Dan! 11-26-2006 02:11 PM

Everyone is fucking stupid. Masterbating in public or whistling to yourself cant feed smoke into other people's lungs which in the long run takes valuable time off of your life.

DontRunMeOver 11-26-2006 02:14 PM

Look at the statistics for how many years habitual smoking can take off your life.

Then calculate how many kick-ass albums you could listen to in the same period of time.

Then think how much quality music appreciation time you'll rob yourself of by smoking.

right-track 11-26-2006 02:16 PM

DRMO...do you drive?

DontRunMeOver 11-26-2006 02:21 PM

Yes, once or twice a week on average. Taking my friends to the cinema and sometimes driving to see my girfriend in Cornwall. If it wasn't so risky around here I'd get everybody to cycle to the movies instead :)

wooo cornwall.

anyway.
i think its dumb.
not completely, obviously it has its healthrelated upsides, but, should be upto specific bars&pubs.
s'part of the atmosphere is all.
i dunno. i like it.

swim 11-26-2006 02:40 PM

I don't mind smoke but bars are the exception. It's like lets have 20 people in a not very large room smoke continuosly. There aren't really too many situations where there's someone smoking that you can't just walk away and if you can't walk away people, one maybe two if you're lucky but definitely not 10, will stop if you ask them to. That's what I've found anyway. People who make an effort to complain and be discomforted are even more annoying than smokers.
