I think the problem with smoking in public places is for the business - the whole second-hand smoke thing has been blown way out of proportion, but that means that people are scared about it. So if one bar has no smoking, and another allows smoking, most non-smokers would probably prefer to go to the no smoking bar to "protect themselves" from the smoke. I think it's more of a business manoeuvre than anything else.
But I do think smokers should be allowed to smoke in designated areas - it's their choice!!

That doesn't make sense .. The tobacco industry is pretty big! If pro-business is all the government care about when making these laws, then they would promote that goal by working against the tobacco companies and by helping the various little pubs and restaurants a little bit with the potential customers who are otherwise scared of or repelled by cigarette smoke? ;)

I think it's more an active stance on a public health concern.

Oops, I forgot to say - I mean for the business for clubs and bars, not tobacco. And also I was thinking from the owners point of view, rather than the government's... but I see your point.

Ditto. I've been smoke free since May 19th of this year and I kind of miss it. What has helped is the fact that I cannot consume any alcohol due to my medication, so the cravings have relatively negligible.

No body should smoke. I did it for 6 years (ages 10-16. yeah, seriously, 10 years old) and it didn't do anything, but cause problems for me. I don't really care that much though, people are free to do whatever the **** they want.

I don't smoke but I'm fine with other people smoking as long as it's not in my face, so I'm against smoking in public places.

In public places, yes, in bars/restaurants, no.

It bothers me when people talk about cigarettes "not doing anything" ect. Whether you are addicted or not, as someone said above, a cigarette with a beer or a coffee or after a nice dinner is one of the most relaxing things. Our health teacher told us it raises dopamine by 200% but I don't know how true that is.
Anyways. Here in denmark it is illegal in bars and restaurants but it is legal if the bar or restaurant is really small and privately owned. I think that could work. I mean I'm not gonna lie. It was kinda mysterious and cool or whatever to walk into a bar through a thick cloud of smoke seeing all sorts of different people drinking and laughing.
Or maybe that's just me. I liked the smell as a kid unfortunately, so I'm hooked

I feel anyone who owns a private business like a resturaunt has the RIGHT to choose whether they want to make it smoking or non-smoking. It is their resturaunt, not the government's, so I feel that they are entitled to making a simple decision such as smoking or non-smoking. And I feel all they would need to do is put a sign out front saying that they allow smoking, and people can make their own decision whether they want to go in or not. For christs sake, we are America! If we want to make ourselves sick and cancerous then goddammit we should be allowed to! :D The governement shouldn't be allowed to think for us.

I mean here they are worried about cigarrette smoke, but yet the FDA has former TYSON MEAT tycoons in there running the branch and turning a blind eye to unhealthy hormones making souped up monster chickens that are being dispersed out of TYSON chicken factories to grocery stores and resturaunts across America that are making people sick! Its rediculous.

I'm a little more understanding with no smoking in say, Post Offices, or Libraries or government type establishments. But not private ownerships! I'm afraid to know whats right of ours is going to be sacrificed next.
