How to make a Remix

Hello my people, I have come to discuss how one is supposed to go about making and releasing remixes to songs. I'm sure I could find articles about it, but I thought it would be more interesting to just start a conversation.

So here is what I will start with: how do people typically go about getting permission to make a remix?

I would suggest either contact the label or artist on social media showing them your remix and if they like it, they might allow you to put it out. Happened to me a few times :) or enter remix competitions. I wouldnt recommend to remix mega hits off the bat.

Buy a copy of the song you want to remix - should be your first step.
Then contact the record label that put out the song as well as the manager/producer of the song - they're the ones that hold copyright. (Artists can be much easier to get a response from, at least from my experience)
If that's OK, then get a copy of a legal permission (even if it's just an e-mail).
Done? Congrats - your remixes are covered by fair use and you can post them legally.
