Emotional qual. of Elec.??

I really do like electronica music, but sometime I feel that there is a definate lack of emotional diversity in the lyrics. A large chunk of songs dont even have lyrics.

The most emotion you will ever hear of in an electronica song is about love, you never hear about hate, depression, etc. Other genres seem to cover a much broader range of feelings.

Does anyone know any Electronica that has a more emotional twist to it??

I was under the impression that Electronica had no lyrics at all, so I can't really help you.

Im with rockafella...I didnt know they had lyrics...as in, it was all electronically made?
*giggles about the idea of Microsoft Sam singing*

Well, most of it just has a vocal sample here and there, but there is quite a bit with actual lyrics, alot of acts have vocalists. Take Sylver for instance.

First Base - Love Is Paradise
U96 - Love Sees No Colour
Netzwerk - Memories

Kinda What I'm talking about. the're all love intertwined Never seen a song that isnt about love, or the bitter aftertaste of it anyways

There is alot of love in techno, but there is alot of love in music in general. There are some techno songs that dont have love specifically in their lyrics but have other theme but still they arent about hate. I havent heard any hate techno, it would probably be dark techno, that would kick ass. You could probably goth techno kids next or cyber goths, arent there already cyber goths, anyways.

Well they're more into Industrial and stuff like Depeche Mode. Not exactly techno but still borderline electronic.

I just figured out a hate or evil techno group for you. D-Devils. They have this song about judgement day and another song on gates of hell, etc. Its not the best of techno but it has a really cool voice in it and some cool sounds. Just check it out if you have time I guess.

Hm.. Will do for sure, this is something I've been looking for, for a very long time. Possibly a revolution is electronica? I hope so. I think its getting rather stale.

Yeah, there needs spice for sure. I like the fact that its not over popular, that way it kind of conserves some of its traits and doesnt become overly liberal in a way that would ruin the genre. I also think there needs to be additions to the genre though. Maybe making it darker would help... Maybe if you had more hardcore trance with some heavy sounds that blended metal or rock. As long as it doesnt become "rap"ified.

As for vocals, I think there is a lot of potential to go in any direction. Arab music has some really nice culture feels and blends to singing technique. Maybe some of that would help. Nice chorus with "heavenly" or "churchly" feel to it. You know, like those opera voices all together, it adds a nice base that empowers. Piano is always hot with techno and it should maybe be improved on. All these elements could be added and "electrified" by running them through synthesisers (I dont know if u get what I mean, but editing them with computers, etc.)

Any imput on how things could be improved?

Well I definatley think some actual instrumentation would greatly diversify things. Most euro groups these days just sit in front a computer, come up with a 4beat drum loop, then add some ambient effects and the like, throw in the (always female) vocals and call it a show, then depend on some underground DJ to remix it until its club worthy. I think thats horrible.

The state of electronica right now is that no one cares. Everyone just wants a really pumping song that can provide them their club needs and thats it. As long as you can dance to it its good.

If I had the resources to do such a thing I would just experiment like crazy with sounds and different instruments and come up with some original rhythms with instruments, not drum machines but drums.

I have seen alot of piano incorporated in trance songs, it adds a nice feel to the music for sure.

I just think that people should start really caring and thinking about how we can expand electronica and improve upon it instead of making the exact same techno cut over and over again. with different vocals dubbed over it.
