Electronic Samba Thread

Lol. Yeeeeaa buddy. Electronic Samba is a thing. And this is the official thread for it.

being a drummer, i associate samba with a particular rhythm. as far as i know, the word samba is only used to describe that rhythm. so i just thought i should mention that the video you posted doesn't actually contain a samba rhythm.

Eh. I went by the name. Could you post a couple songs with samba rhythms so I can get a better sense of it?

yup! this guy is giving a drum lesson. he tells a little history of the rhythm, what the rhythm is, and how it is played. you don't have to watch the whole thing. once you've seen what he does with his feet, you've seen the samba pattern. the rest is a jazz lesson about coordination. :)

Is this a better example?

Shy FX & T-Power - Shake Your Body - YouTube

no. that's a breakbeat.

in the video i posted the samba is on the kick. there is no rule that says the samba has to be played on the kick, however. it's what is called a "clave" or "ostinato", which is basically just an underlying repetitive pattern or rhythm over which other - usually improvisational - rhythms or solos are played. as far as i know, it doesn't make too many appearances in electronic dance music. if you're actually interested in it i recommend locating some latin music.

The little bit of E Samba that I've heard tends to mix a tiny bit of Samba with other types of beats.

The Shy FX song starts out that way but then changes up around the 24 second mark.

On this video you have to wait til the 1:56 mark for the Samba to kick in.
