That's good to know. They're actually performing in my home town this summer. My actual fucking home town...lol.

I had the chance to see them live 2 years ago at a festival. However they were on at the same time as Rage Against The Machine and i had to go see Rage cos it felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity even though i wasn't the biggest fan. I'll see the Chemical Brothers live someday hopefully.

I read through this whole thread since there weren't too many pages. It's kind of funny the difference between your post here and your first posts in the thread. You were really hardcore about how awesome the Chemical Brothers are...

Ah, things that can change in 5 years...

I have the album on CD and in the booklet it shows exactly who does what. Many electronic artists like The Chemical Brothers feature guest vocalists or collaborators a lot of the time, but the music is always created and produced by the album artist, otherwise it would just be a Various Artists compilation.

Thanks for the complement on the avatar though
ahaa thats ok lol I didnt know that thank you i do like the songs on there except for left right that scared me and come inside

I really liked "Swoon" when I listened to it, but I haven't got round to purchasing "Further" yet, I can't really afford that much music, and there's so much other stuff that I want to buy! I'll make do with spotify for now :P

But it did remind me that I bought "Brotherhood" before, and hadn't listened to it yet, so I took a listen on a 2 hours train journey ;_; and found that it was quite dissapointing. Not in that the music was bad, but there are so many good ideas in Chemical Brothers songs, but they rarely manage to turn them into solid songs. The only two songs that struck me as excellent were "Saturate" and "Galvanise."

Perhaps the most frustrating was "Out of Control" is builds has song great passages, but it is really missing something to turn it into a great song, rather than a bunch of ideas I'll get further at some point and see if they've sorted it out.

Brotherhood is a singles compilation though. To really get what The Chemical Brothers are all about you should pick up one of their studio albums. Get Dig Your Own Hole and listen to it from start to finish, you will be converted.

I definitely will Would you say putting some of the singles in context makes them better, in this case?

edit: To clarify, I'm not just looking for the singles in the studio album, I know it's the experience you were recommending, the question about the singles was entirely separate ^__^

I picked up Further (was the only one in HMV that was in there) and I was quite impressed by it, they manage to carry off lots of different styles of song (Snow is mildly ambient, whereas Swoon is much more upbeat, and Horse Power is really quite "Housey") and it works really well.

I believe that I may have to look into downloading that there new album... while it's certainly not setting the world alight, it definitely sounds like another good installment in a string of what usually turn out to be very entertaining fun electronic dance music albums...

Don't have much to say. Favorite album of theirs to spin is probably Come with us, and Further is a return to form.
Bumping old thread for the win!
