Very strange that you can dismiss anything that is apparently "hipster subculture". Maybe you need to start forming your own opinion?

I do, that's what seperates normal people from the hipsters. Problem?

Lawl. This post is a contradiction.

You say it's a hipster subculture than you say Skrillex is a popular artist. You're using two completely different bases to form an opinion that quite frankly doesn't make a lot of sense.

Hipster would more be suitable with underground dubstep.

Hipsters are the epitome of contradictory. The ideology of the subculture collapses on itself.

"I listened to dubstep before it was cool".

Nothing contradictory in that quote.

Not really. Though, more recently the term "Hipster" has been thrown around so much that it really doesn't have a meaning anymore. People just use it because they think something they've never heard before fits the stereotype.

And I haven't really seen a lot of instances where people have said "I listened to dubstep before it was cool". Dubstep has sort of just...blown up on his own from state to state, more specifically the West Coast, and even more specifically Seattle (where i'm from).

I just find it funny that not too many people were throwing the word 'hipster' around a few years ago and now it seems to be the word on everyone's lips, ready to spit at people who listen to music different from theirs. I think that says a lot about some people, people get so worked up about things that basically amount to nothing in the end.

Indie rock is as popular as it's ever been. Hipster as a term isn't thrown around, it's just that they're easy targets because the whole idea is to be independent, yet effectively becoming mainstream. Being a hipster is popular now. It's just like mallcore, really. There's nothing independent about any of it.

I listen to indie music too, I've been called hipster as much as anyone, but it goes beyond music taste.

That's what I was sort of getting at. It suddenly became "the word" to use for anything that seems to be new.

You have an opinion, yet you dislike a genre and the most popular artist within that genre by default? That's a bit strange, don't you think?

Also, you say being a hipster is popular? Maybe being a failed hipster who actually thinks Skrillex is underground and different is popular..

But true hipsters are on this forum, listening to the best new music and judging those who like what is presented to them in the mainstream for being lesser individuals.
