I had not heard half of it until now, and I have always thought Teardrop was fantastic. Vastly different from the jazzy hip-hop they did before, but it really worked.

Glad you have been converted! I owe a lot to the film Snatch for introducing me to Massive Attack in the first place. My sister had Unfinished Sympathy as her first song at her wedding thing too which was pretty sweet.

Tricky fell off a bit, I think. Maxinquaye, Nearly God and (parts of) Pre Millennium Tension were all great, but I think his later stuff misses something. It's good he tries to do new things, though.

As for Massive Attack, I've been listening a lot to Heligoland lately, and I think it's pretty strong. At first, I thought it was ok, but now I find it pretty enjoyable. "Flat of the Blade" amazes me.

I agree with your comment on Tricky, his first three were great and then Angels with Dirty Faces and onwards were kind of flat. I think he got caught up in a bad record deal. Either that or it was the drugs.

Yeah. I still think he has some songs from later albums that are good, such as "Broken Homes", "Carriage for Two" and "Excess", but as a whole, his material has been pretty weak lately.

I think his latest album, "Mixed Race", actually is kind of good, though. Not perfect, of course, but still pretty cool at some points, with tracks like "UK Jamaican" and "Murder Weapon".

I actually loved "What Your Soul Sings" from 100th Window, and "Better Things" from Protection. This could be because they were the first Massive Attack songs I heard. And, to make matters more complicated, the first time I heard Teardrop was its remixed version from the onelove smash your stereo remix from 2009. Weirdnesssssss. When I realized it was a remix, I didn't even believe it. Who would even remix Massive Attack, they are so good on their own!

I had quite a problem getting into anything more than the album Mezzanine. It was the first one to be heard by me and it really impressed me with its gloomy atmosphere. After that I tried Blue Lines and Protection. After first disappointment I finally managed to like these CDs somehow, but it wasn't what I had expected after hearing Mezzanine. I know that for many Massive Attack fans it isn't Mezzanine which is the best, it is just the most popular one, but it is this bleak sense of a musty attic in the night that made me absolutely love it.
