Best live acts

Pretty self explanatory. Who in your opinion, puts on the best show (in the land of Electronica)? This can be a variety of things.. from

Being crazy (especially at around 4:40)

Even crazier

The ability to work the crowd

And so on. I have too many to post

electronica is an interesting genre to hear performed live since most electronica musicians basically make most of their music with a computer and a pair of headphones, but at many time live electronics can actually end up sounding better than the original recording. in truth i've only seen one true electronica band perform live

The Album Leaf

this is the show i was at so amazing the video doesn't capture the true quality of the song live though

I would give all 16 of my testicles to see this guy live:

KJ SAWKA

You really have to watch the whole thing.
He does MORE than most DJ's do on decks, and does it while playing the motherfucking drums. There is no excuse for how ridiculously badass that is.

I think I'll make him his own little thread here on MB.

animal collective does the same thing but they're nowhere near as good at the drums as this guy

Yea he's a beast. Some of his other work is better recorded and you can really hear the intricacies of his drumming and how deadly accurate it is. People refer to him as a human drum machine.

We went to a festival in Brackley a few years ago, called Gatecrasher. Headlined by Chemical Brothers and Prodigy, with a host of many many other awesome DJ's, and one of our friends took us to one of the trance tents to check out this guy called Yoji. I'd never heard anything of him before, but for the 20 minutes of his set we saw.. I was just engrossed completely. Trance generally isn't my bag but this was awesome, the video below isn't as good a representation to when I saw him because the tent he was playing in was at least half the size of the one in this video:

Also, at this years Glastonbury I wandered away from the Pyramid watching Stevie Wonder 'cause I needed to piss, and went to one of the other stages because it was so packed. Anyway I winded up watching the end of Orbital's set and they're arguably the best dance act I've ever seen live. I caught the song which they closed on which was Doctor? SO. GOOD. And some tool from Dr. Who came on during it but I had no idea who he was. This is the exact footage of the show I saw:

Just come back from Global Gathering and I've still got that festival feeling :) 2 acts really stood out for me over the weekend.

Above & Beyond - Absolutely blinding set this year, by far the best I've seen from them. Special moment for me was the sing-a-long to 'On A Good Day', it certainly sent shivers down my spine. Not a bad tune in there and the light show was pretty epic too looking back at the vid below (didn't notice at the time lol).

Bloody Beetroots (Death Crew 77 (Live)) - These guys rocked it up big time, absolutely insane!! High intensity, no rests just smash after smash. Unfortunately no highlights of them but if you've seen them live you'll know what I'm talking about :)

IndiElectronica 08-04-2010 08:16 AM

aye - bloody beetroots rocked at primavera... steve aoki does a good job live too considering he's just DJ'ing. it's a weird type of music for 'live' performances and often the crowd is what make's it work live... for instance chem bros are always great live... but they don't do much on stage themselves... :)

downwardspiral 08-04-2010 08:48 AM

so jealous you went to primavera :(

IndiElectronica 08-04-2010 10:56 AM

it's going to be a regular festi for me...great indie and great electronica/dj's.. only big uk festi this year for me is bestival.. but also doing LED on Freiday and SW4 on Sunday :)
