You're right. You should be running out of the club screaming. :D

My favourite edit is the 2009 extended mix but I can't find a link so you can get a little bit of a taste from the original...

Dieselboy 12-10-2009 06:06 PM

Ugh, Lemongrass is so fantastic. :)

Dieselboy 12-10-2009 10:50 PM

Been listening to quite a bit of Asian and Indian style electronica lately.
Heard this on DJ Nihal's show this week. It's absolutely FILTHY sounding, and some really cool instrumentation as well.

I really like Little Stoner Chick by Siditious, but that's a completely different type of non-dance electronica than what most of you have mentioned.

If you're just sitting there not dancing you're probably not on E like most of the people dancing to trance. like myself.

Well I beg to differ about the ecstasy thing actually. I've never taken an ecstasy tablet in my life and I've been to 5 difference trance "festivals" and danced throughout the whole night ;)

DYAD10 - Sugar (Sweet Thing) [Nick Kirstejn & Asle Bjorn Remix]

Best song from one of my favorite mix CD's, which I also linked in Albums You're Digging II.

It's just a sloooow sexy sexy house track.

The Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix)

It's not better than the original, but not much is. Interesting for sure though. 0_0

I don't think you can dance to this! I was going to put this on the Feb comp but I decided against it. I think it's a great track:

i'm with you on that...drugs are not required to feel the music and get into it. soundtribe put on a 3 hour show and i danced the whole time. when a dj or band can feel the audience and respond to it with the right music, it is possible to get everyone to dance.

i just remember them playing the last song of their first set...they spent the whole set feeling the audience out and just unleashed awesomeness on the last song. even people who were walking to grab beers and what not stopped and started dancing. it was so surreal.

All his music is great.

My eldest son has been going absolutely mental for music like this. He has recommended me a few artists recently.

When I first pressed play on this my initial thoughts were

The more I listened the more I liked it though, im gonna have to investigate further.

Any links would be appreciated.

As for ecstacy and dance music, Ive got to the point now where I could dance stone cold sober and would have a great time. But when I first started raving there is no dount that pills enhanced both my confidence and my understanding of the music.

DnB and pills are a match made in heaven.

Real talk! Now and days I'm usually on that triple stacked sober but the occasional pill is still tons of fun.

Sinister Beats - Venom

Sinister is right...very sinister...very dark. I like this.

From Four Tet's new album. I love the skippy sound going on throughout the track. The chimes are nice too...you'll see.

Angel Echoes

Just beautiful music.

sidewinder 01-28-2010 01:42 PM

^ The track isn't really doing much for me, definitely has the sound of an intro track, but I sampled a bit of the album and downloaded it last night.

I've been digging this song and album (Gold + Green) a lot lately. This is a live studio recording.

My favorite is "Miss You" by Trentemøller and it has been for a few years. I can't post links yet, but you should really listen to it! it's a very beautiful song.

sidewinder 04-24-2010 08:06 PM

Really liking this new track 'Fine Objects' by Eskamon (new project between Amon Tobin and dubstep producer Eskmo). The louder I play it the better it is (on good headphones/speakers of course). The YouTube quality isn't the best, but it's still quite nice. Hoping for an album soon.

After listening to songs in this thread vs. the electronica dance thread, I recognize that I am definitely someone who prefers electronic music "for the head" and not the dance floor!

Here's the song for you, since you can't post it yet. The song feels very delicate and gentle, like slow, early morning rain on a gray day:

^ Now THIS I liked a lot, sidewinder! I love the variety of odd sounds in "Fine Objects," some low and menacing, others fragile and quirky. I found myself smiling through most of the song, wondering what would come next. It makes me feel like I'm on the set of my favorite sci-fi movie, Aliens.

The song sounds mostly percussive to me and light on melody. My only wish would be for the song to include a bit more melody to take the tension build-ups over the edge, rather than maintain a fairly consistent (although fascinating) sound from start to finish.

sidewinder 04-25-2010 01:46 PM

Glad you like the song! :) I agree that some melody would be nice, but I don't really find it missing from the song. Are you familiar with Amon Tobin's work? If not I suggest you check some out. Still very abstract and not all of it has melody, but I think it may satisfy what you find missing in this song. Check this one out actually, it's one of his most recent that he's released on his website as a single.

Thanks, sidewinder, and I'll check out more of Amon Tobin's work, but you know, what I really like about Eskamon's "Fine Objects" is the menacing feel of it, which Tobin's "Twelvses" song lacks. I've listened to "Fine Objects" several times now and definitely prefer it to more melodious electronic music, which feels too placid and pretty to me.

Similarly, I like the song Jackhammer posted. I like the staccato rhythm with the unexpected silences and the abstractness of it. Also, I especially like the feel of the song Dieselboy posted, "Venom," by Sinister Beats. I like the sinister feeling of it.

So, what kind of "electronica" does this mean I like? Is there a name for electronic music with a sinister feel? I think I like the music because it sounds as if the whole world is shattering down around me. And maybe I like that partly because then afterwards I look around me and think, "Hey! It's not so bad!" Also, I tend to acknowledge the awful side of things, so I like music that captures that feeling.

Sounds like Dubstep might be your thing, then. Eskmo, the guy who collaborated with Amon Tobin to form Eskamon, is a dubstep producer. He may have brought the menace to the table, even though I find some of Amon Tobin's stuff menacing. Perhaps not in the same way though.

Check out this thread: http://www.musicbanter.com/electroni...3-dubstep.html

Thanks for the link to the Dubstep thread, sidewinder! It is nice to get a "diagnosis" for the type of music I might like. ;)

I listened to more of Amon Tobin and then Eskmo, since you said Eskmo may have "brought the menace to the table"--I like that phrase! I think it is hit and miss with me with some of the dubstep songs, because some I like and others...not so much. However, I did find much of Eskmo's music appealing, and now that I've heard more of his work definitely hear his influence in "Fine Objects" by Eskamon.

As an example, right now I am listening to and enjoying Eskmo's "San Francisco," which I only wish didn't have the vocals in it ("The Rhythm...San Francisco"), which sound hokie to me and limit the scope of the song. Despite the vocals, I like the watery but harsh, slow rhythmic feeling of the song, which feels playful yet solid. I especially like the low growling thuds. I bet they have quite an impact on one's gut if one has good speakers. And I love the picture of the hammerhead sharks used for this homemade video. I like thinking of all these animals swimming around down under there, doing their own thing while we are...here.

Eskmo, "San Francisco":

sidewinder 04-27-2010 11:51 AM

I feel the same way as you about dubstep...some tracks are great, some are just not appealing at all.

And also about Eskmo. I hadn't heard the song San Francisco before, and it's pretty good. I also could do without the vocals, and that's my complaint about the 2 or 3 other songs of his I've heard. Some even use an autotune-like effect that really turns me off. The vocals are much less annoying in this song (unless they get worse later on, I only listened to about half).
