I heard the preview/flylo set in Gilles Peterson show couple weeks ago and I have to say it sounds good but I'm a bit dissappointed. Dance of the Pseudo Nymphs sounds great tho. Then again my fav releases was 1983 so I'm tipping more in the beat side.

Another month before it's out. I pre-ordered the limited edition one from Warp/Bleep.
I only listened to the promo song/single once and didn't think much of it, but I'm fairly confident I'll enjoy the album. I've read some good things. |

Yeah the CD. Bleep recently announced that all CD and vinyl purchases from now on will come with downloads. And in some cases (like Autechre), they release the MP3s before the official date. So if you've pre-ordered, you get them as soon as they release them. Leaks are already out so it might not be too much longer.
Only problem is that they aren't cheap. You're likely to get a better deal locally or on Amazon (even new) once it's available. |

This is a special case though. |
Brainfeeder Radio presents… COSMOGRAMMA SPECIAL 4/20 « Flying Lotus
To celebrate 4/20 and the forthcoming album release of ‘Cosmogramma’ (out 3rd/4th May), Flying Lotus and his Brainfeeder crew are broadcasting a radio show live from LA, together with a special one-off preorder of the album. Flying Lotus will take you through chosen cuts from his LP alongside other participants including The Gaslamp Killer (who co-produced Gonjasufi's album), Ras G, Daedelus, Teebs, Matthewdavid, Dr. Strangeloop and more. That's today, by the way, as in, right now. |
^ nice!
thanks for pointing this out |
I just finally tuned in, Daedelus is on the decks now. Really cool hip-hop/wonky stuff so far. Not sure who was on when I first tuned in.

Really digging the new album....
|
can anyone give me an up of the album in a private message?
all the versions of the album i've got have been distorted, and i'm sick of just streaming it. |
Which album?
|
Fuck it - let him stream it or pay up.
Anyway, I'm unsure about the new one. I like it but I don't find myself listening to it very often - for sure it didn't start a temporary obsession which is generally how I can tell if I love an album or not. |

I'm really hoping there is a Madlib/Flying Lotus collaboration, i can't imagine it being anything but awesome.
|
i don't understand all of the love for cosmogramma. it's ok. the samples are great and the rest leaves something to be desired.

Seriously, you would have to like 'abstract electronic' music to really enjoy Cosmogramma. I'm not saying that you should bother listening to it much if you don't. But there's definitely love in it. |
what is your favorite track? i would rate most of it above average, but there is nothing that piques my interest. so many of the songs are little ditties that peak immediately then repeat.

I can totally understand where your coming from as the album is really quite 'abstract' compared to much of his other music. It's got a lot of short, meandering tracks and not a whole lot of beats. I had problems getting into it myself for a while. I liked it immediately but after a few listens I just kind of never put it on again. But recently I've been listening to it a lot and so here's my response to you: I began to think of it as more of a 70s Jazz fusion album - or maybe Krautrock even. I also only listen to the album straight through, never single songs. It made a lot more sense to me after that. My favorite of the rare groove-based tracks is this: Do the Astral Plane But my favorite track is probably this: Dance of the Pseudo Nymph |
Honestly, the genres are blending...
It seems that the genres are blending when it comes to electronica and hip hop. Honestly, its a beautiful meeting I do believe. FlyLo is a perfect example of this.

I can't express how much i dig Flying Lotus, but honestly, this thread should be in the hip hop section. FlyLo is way more influenced by jazz and hip hop than electronic music. He just expresses his art through electronics. I would compare his **** to DJ Shadow. Anyway, those are my two cents.

Flylo
I would consider his music to be more of constantly evolving jam, rather than a series of tracks, or even measures, he's breaking some ground for sure, hes a loop digger for sure, and he's into DMT so who knows what he even thinks about the tunes he makes.
|
Booyah!
|
Apparently he is remixing the latest Radiohead album. Will be really interested to see how that comes out if it ever sees the light of day!

I just listened to Cosmogramma awhile ago. Definatley one of the better releases from '10 and my favorite release from him so far.
|
Man is a genius!
|
Flying Lotus is really cool.
He'll be playing at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival this year, which is cool, but too expensive for me! $35/day! http://demf2011.info/ Anyway, his music is innovative and unique and creates such a diverse array of atmospheric soundscapes. Furthermore, how could you not like his work with Adult Swim? YouTube - Flying Lotus - Massage Situation |
I just couldn't get into Cosmogramma, the jazz just throws me off completely. Might try again when I get my HD518s though.
|
I don't know if you guys have heard these beats but they bang.
All but the last song, which is the title track off 1983, are off the July Heat beat tape. Just another strong point in my Flying Lotus/Hip Hop argument. |
Ridiculous.
|
ive been jammin out to this one |
|
this track is my fave
|
I loved his nardwauar interview hahaa
