Default Somewhat New To Electronia...Could Use Advice

Hey all. I suppose I'll get right to the point- I can't see to put my finger on what all the genres of electronic music truly consist of- I love a lot of music, but my particular favorites have got to be those that are borderline progressive/heavy metal. Opeth, Agalloch, Amorphis, Tool, etc- if you've heard any of them in much detail you probably have a good idea the kind of sound I like. That being said I've recently become interested in some more electronic stuff and it seems I'm pretty into the heavier/darker sound just like my rock stuff...

Here's some songs I've really come to enjoy:

Orbital- Petrol
Fluke- Atombomb
Prodigy- Climbatize, Skylined, Claustrophobic Sting (This is probably my favorite electronic track, period)
Chemical Brothers- Private Psychedelic Reel
Future Sound of London- Dead Cities, Landmass
Also, while I'm not sure of what the songs were I've liked some Infected Mushroom & Astral Projection.

Drawing any parallels that you might suggest genres and/or specific artists/songs? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Sounds like you like the Bigbeat/Dance side of Electronic. See you like Chemical Brothers--you might also like: 'Dig Your Own Hole' and 'Get Up on it Like This' tracks. You might also like Chrystal Method and some Fatboy Slim. Have you discovered last.fm yet? If not, go to Last.fm - Discover new music with free internet radio and the largest music catalogue online. You can search for groups you like and you will get a selection of similar groups with rankings of how similar. You can also put in particular songs, like Claustrophobic Sting and you will get a list of songs that are similar. It's a good way to explore. I don't think I can put up links in this forum until I have 25 posts, but I put in Claustrophobic Sting for you on lost.fm, and this is the list I get:
I'll mail you the link in case this doesn't post.

Probably not quite your taste, but have you found Aphex Twin and Kraftwerk yet? Two of my favorites for electronic. Might be worth a listen even if not quite what you are looking for.

...also check out LFO (there are two bands named LFO--steer clear of the pop boy band). Try the track "Freak" from latest album--plus their first album 'Frequencies' is great techno/acid house--I think picked up on Kraftwerk and influenced Aphex Twin and Chemical Brothers.

Aphex Twin is great for electronic sounds with a dark undertone, depends on your taste tho, definitely worth a shot!

Ohgr is great but not something I would even remotely consider techno.

You might like Vitalic. He has his light side but there's definitely a dark undertone to his music. Here's one of his songs:
