for me the whole 'going anywhere' aspect of music is a reflection of how i listen to instrumental pieces. a really good piece will take my mind somewhere, anywhere, it doesn't matter. when it comes to air's instrumentals i find the ones with more pronounced lead parts (does not need to be a virtuoso performance) to provide better experiences. their more ambient stuff doesn't really cut it for me since they usually don't go on long enough.

i'd also say the tuba on 'ce matin la' is a far more unorthodox instrument choice than the banjo on 'biological'

but you're right, it does seem as though the band made a choice to start focusing on songcraft as they've progressed. i just like their looser tracks a bit more.

Got it. I can easily daydream about being taken places, etc when caught up in the way a song moves.

I have been whistling Mike Mills to myself all morning and it is not going out of my head. I am going to have to play John Zorn or something to get rid of it and I blame you of course!:p::)

Mr Dave hit the nail on the head. The instrumentals on Moon Safari were virtually 'electronic jams' and had an organic feel about them. The band realised what sold and then tried to perfect and hone this whilst losing the fact that the very 'looseness' of the tracks was what was enjoyable in the first place.

I didn't really like Air when I first heard them but, then again, I was 14 at the time and my current listening habits are pretty much unrecognizable from the ones I had back then. In other words, I'll give 'em a go

Aint dat the truth. When I was 14 I listened to Iron Maiden, Thrash Metal, Marillion and that was it. I have diversified a little since then...

The Virgin Suicides is easily one of my favorite soundtracks ever and is actually the album that introduced me to air.

One of my buddies broke into this girls car as a joke and took all of her Cd's and that happened to be the one that caught my attention. After listening to it for a few days and then burning it I insisted he return her Cd's of course.

What do you guys think of Love 2? I finally listened to it today and I think it's a pretty good album, has a real relaxing feel to it.

i'd call Love2 the best thing they've put out since Moon Safari, take that however you will.

personally i found the last 2 albums boring to the point of not even giving half a crap if they put anything else out. now i'm hoping i can find a way to see them on this tour (which will likely involve crossing at least a third of Canada)

it's hardly a revolutionary album, in fact none of it sounds really original, but it most definitely sounds new. like a Pink Floyd album for lovers instead of loners, and to me that's the greatest thing about Air. rather than shy away from their influences they get as close as possible without mimicking them or compromising themselves.

overall it's a return to the lush soundscapes of their earlier releases. the instrumentals are fantastic and are almost as frequent as the vocal pieces. for people who've been on the fence about the group this is about as awesome as it's going to get as a sampler of what they're all about. the romance, the psychedelia, the experimental pop, the synth jams, it's all there and this time around it's all good

I absolutely love Moon Safari, but for some reason have never got around to checking out any of their other CDs. I've heard alot of good things about Love 2 and Talkie Walkie as well. Really need to get on those. :|
