I might have missed a large discussion somewhere else, but I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned Crystal Castles (II) in this thread after the official release! I'm really enjoying it, I mean Doe Deer is **** crazy, Celestica is quite the classic as are empathy and Baptism. I think that Not in Love is the best track on the album, though, as it just builds up towards the end and just unleashes shed loads of Crystal Castles.
It's a lot more relaxed than the first album, less of an obvious hit but it creeps up on you more.

How is the new album in comparison to their self titled?

Like I said before it's definitely less striking than the first album, and less of the tunes stand out in the same way. But their musical style has evolved slightly, and the majority of their tunes are more relaxing this time round, and I think a reasonable amount of them are more epic, even if they're not anthem like (I'm thinking "Not in Love" from (II) vs Untrust Us from (I).) So yeah, I suppose don't expect to be blown away by (II) as you were by (I) but if you give it a reasonable chance you will (hopefully :P) find that it's as least as good as (I). At least, I did.

Really? I find now if I say to myself "I want to listen to a Crystal Castles album" I almost always go for the second. Sure it doesn't have quite as much mental but it is more listen-able and is an excellent electronic album. It doesn't ever really go into mainstream house or whatever other electronic music you might also consider mainstream so it's definitely still unique in it's style. I love it. I mean an album that can incorporate say these 4 different styles of song is amazing:
