I think Daft Punk have made some realy great tracks, but also a lot of forgettable tunes as well.

Check these out for a complete DP rip-off:

Digitalism don't really sound close enough to Daft Punk to be a "ripoff" (unless you think Simian Mobile Disco, Justice, and all those other Electro House acts are ripping them off as well), and that album isn't very good.

Don't know Simian Mobile disco etc, so can't possibly comment, I only dabble in the electronica genre, but as soon as I heard DIGITALISM it reminded me of daft punk albeit a worse version of them.

i personally think daft punks albums are complete, full, and beautiful. i believe they have done something very artistic with their style of music. theyre songs go far beyond just the beats and loops, even though many of the lyrics are repeated over and over (if they exist) they are expressive and carefully chosen. "homework" was an amazing album, but i feel as if they were still learning alot about themselves musically. when working on "discovery" they had discovered their talent, but wanted to go beyond just beats and add more to the music. they added more involved lyrics and a story of turning into robots, a creative idea in which was brilliant. they continued this story into "human after all". anyways, thats just my opinion and it probably isnt worth 2 ****s to most of you but, cheers.

on a side note, in this 'style' of music i think music videos can offer a lot. beyond just the visual stimulation, if done creatively they can really help express what the artist wanted to get across. if not perhaps you get a glimpse into the art of someones film or animation while listening to a track you enjoy, win win situation.
