I agree with their motives and direction. I hope they don't just get comfortable and go back to their roots with their next album but branch out even more.

Good God, am I gonna get mobbed for expressing a dissenting opinion?
Okay, internet, here we go: @Wpnfire: Oizo: it would take you three clicks to figure it out so... I care? Miss out on good music, not my loss. Next? @djchameleon: I mostly agree. As stated before, it's their life. Whatever. I wasn't expecting them to redo Homework, but evolve into some new forms. When AFX s/t came out it was GROUND BREAKING. Totally new... Y'know, like an ARTIST is supposed to do? Not redo Euro-Disco/ R&B. And, the albums not ALL bad, as i already said, I was just ... ...when I heard it. And, concerning the hype surrounding it.... I mention oizo, etc cuz he's (and others are) breaking, slightly, new ground... Listen if Daft Punk wants to remake themselves into a Pharrell Williams/Mirely Cyrus/ T-Rex hybrid.... GOOD FOR THEM!!!! Doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to express my opinion online about it? |

Some say nothing 'new' can be done, we're in the age of digression. Or just rehashing and combining. But, I, at least, feel the 90's IDM scene, such as it was, with new tech, brought along a whole new kind of music. Now, it did obviously share traits, etcetc, but...'new' enough to really separate it. (<~~my banter) Since then, I've heard a few new changes in EDM that, I thought, warranted a 'WOW'. OffMeNut, Hyperdub, etc. Planet Mu. But, from some band with as much talent as 'DP', I really expected something more. Trust me, I really wanted to like the album. It just seemed boring. And, including modern pop stars just...makes me think they're comparing Italio-Disco with Modern pop ****. Fitting. But, essentially, 'daft.' |

P.S. The whole 'IDM' scene has been incoporated into 'Breakbeat'. So...that too...
Just a 'recombination'...nothing new here? Maybe so, I found the recombination much more pleasing than the heralded 'Random Access Memory'. MUCH more. Daft Punk re-doing Moroder (which we all 'discovered' 3++ years ago) w/ Pharrell Fckn Williams? C'mon... Hope their next effort is much harder. and better. Faster, stronger. Etc. |

Well, as said, I hope they get back to us old schooler's and do the PUNK part. But, alas, people age, and their perspective changes and...Daft Punk seem to be going in a more mainstream style. It happens. I think MOST people will like what they heard on RAM, because it's new to them. saying, 'Some won't like this.' is not a bold statement. Maybe, they needed the funds to produce another 'real' album that won't cash in as much? His dad was a record exec, right? I'm sure he knows how it works. |
