Depeche Mode

I feel like people are missing out on depeche mode or I might be missing out on newer stuff, however I downloaded "Free love" and it is worth checking out. its from the albulm Ultra which overall is sexy/romantic.
Its weird to like music that is so old yet so good. most people that like the same music are always like " o yeah I used to like them in high school, their still around?."

Raine 07-23-2006 10:34 AM

My favorite song by them is probably macrocosms from their latest album Playing the Angel

However I don't think they're anything much to write home about. But they arepretty good. And I'm suprised by how much I like thier latest album. Although their earlier stuff is still better and maybe a tad overrated since Marilyn Manson did a cover of their song Personal Jesus. And I'm not too upset to admit that I like the cover better than the original. Although not by much.

Richard Cheese does a rather good version too. :D

IndiElectronica 07-25-2006 07:02 AM

just saw them for the first time ever! LOVED it! I've not paid much attention to their recent albums but have loved them for over 15 years...

swim 07-31-2006 10:08 PM

They are loads of awesome. Just plain great band. Every album I've gave a listen is great. And could some fanboy tell what album/ep the cover of Tainted Love is on?

IndiElectronica 08-01-2006 04:08 AM

tainted love? never even knew they did a cover until now. Google only brings it back as a single. I don't think it was on an album or I'd have it...

This is a band that has more stuff out there than you can ever get... I have a full album of their songs done by a full orchestra and 2-3 albums of covers by other bands... some good stuff in there...

swim 08-01-2006 02:05 PM

I didn't think it existed till rt and I found it. I thought it might've been on record company compilation so I emailed them asking for the tracklist and they replied "scheduled for release early next year" which makes no sense. I suppose it was just a single so, thanks.

I like "nothings impossible" from that album the most.

I'm listening to Suffer Well right now. I like this song as much as I like their earlier stuff (if not more). Bands that keep up the same standards over such long periods of time are quite hard to find, I think.

Mr.1102 06-01-2010 11:26 AM

Depeche Mode

I'v got the "sounds of the universe" album. As well as some of their other songs, including "world in my eyes", "enjoy the silence", "policy of truth", and some others. Anyways, I'm not really sure they count as an electro band, but they do use alot of electronic tunes in thier music. Just was woundering if anyone else has heard of or likes them?:hphones:

I have never heard of them.

Audio_phil 06-07-2010 01:10 AM

I've always been a fan and regularily play some of their videos from you tube.
Yesterday night, I even discovered the video-clip of "Blaspemous rumours".
Also, I am a big fan of the famous DM outsider, Mr Alan Wilder, whom I met a few weeks ago at a gig, in Paris. DM is definitely my favourite band, they really have had some great influence on me and my music.

I can`t believe that an American hasn`t heard of Depeche Mode!!! They had some big selling albums there. They`re hugely popular in the UK and Europe.

The three definative albums are "Music for the Masses" "Violator" and "Songs of Faith and Devotion" the last is my fav as its the most rock orientated of the three and less electronic based than the rest of their material. Most fans tend to love "Black Celebration" All these albums are from their middle period and the best place to start.

Necromancer 06-07-2010 10:05 AM

Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus.

YouTube - Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus (Remastered Video)

I always liked these guys, they have a very unique and distinctive/individual sound about their music, (politics, war, religion, etc.)

I can't believe your sarcasm meter is that broken. :p:

I thought the question "...if anyone else has heard of..." was silly so I took advantage.

James 06-07-2010 11:14 AM

Violator is great
Don't like the rest though it's a bit cheesy.

RVCA 06-07-2010 11:23 AM

Depeche Mode lost cool points when they knocked on Arctic Monkeys

I knew you were joking given your post count on here.............I just thought I`d play the scenario out;)

Elvis_Now 08-19-2015 09:22 PM

Any Depeche Mode fans?

In my humble opinion they are the best electronic band of all time! :D

derek 08-19-2015 09:33 PM

Elvis_Now 08-19-2015 09:35 PM

Did you like Delta Machine?

They are pretty amazing!

I live in LA and there is a club once a month called MODE M: which plays all Depeche Mode and a sprinkling of other electronic and similar music. Love it there!

Mr. Charlie 09-03-2015 03:38 PM

They ain't the best (in my opinion) but they are bloody good. Anyone who writes songs like this are a bit special:

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence

Carpe Mortem 09-03-2015 03:43 PM

If you like Depeche Mode, boy do I have a band for you to check out.

Mr. Charlie 09-03-2015 03:45 PM

They look amazing, sure, but what do they sound like?

Carpe Mortem 09-03-2015 03:51 PM

Yeah, I think they kinda sound like Depeche Mode.

Mr. Charlie 09-03-2015 03:53 PM

Haha. Cool.

Black Francis 09-03-2015 11:35 PM

I recently heard Violator and Songs of faith and devotion and they were really good.

I seriously underestimated this group, i used to think they sounded kinda euro trash and gay and they do but they still make great songs.

derek 09-04-2015 03:59 PM

this was their best song imo.

Chula Vista 09-04-2015 05:57 PM

Violator is a pretty damn good album. Give it a spin pretty often. Great production and ya gotta love those raw guitar tones.

Monarch 11-04-2015 11:12 AM

hahh. cool man

this post just made me feel probably older than Dave Gahan feels haha. but yea, "Free Love" is a great track. That album came out my junior year of High School I believe. Love it. And love their older stuff and love their newer stuff.

jam man 01-02-2016 04:09 PM

I tend to dip in and out of Depeche Mode's musical output. Their are still a lot of songs of theirs i've still not heard. So far favourites i like are Stripped, Everything Counts, Blasphemous Rumours, Walking In My Shoes, Leave In Silence and Enjoy The Silence.

bob. 01-02-2016 06:09 PM

Black Celebration turns 30 this year....

Sonar 02-10-2017 09:55 AM

Depeche Mode cosplaying Marx

Sonar 02-10-2017 10:14 AM

Also, new album "Spirit" to be realized on 3/17.

Chiomara 02-10-2017 12:19 PM

One of my first loves. I have so many memories attached to them, though that they can be difficult to listen to.

When I was a depressed 21 year old I'd play Songs of Faith & Devotion, Violator and Ultra on an endless loop while indulgently wallowing in bed with enough candles lit to be a massive fire hazard.

DwnWthVwls 02-12-2017 04:02 PM

I'm a fan, and this is a great unmentioned song:

Chiomara 02-12-2017 04:20 PM

^ A great one.

..Just remembered I forgot my Violator shirt in a hotel in New Orleans last time I went. :c
