Hooky would have been a better choice of vocalist.

really? Does Hook sing?

I also have a fascination with Sumner's vocals. Sometimes I think they are horrible and made worse by the fact that I think he was initially doing his best to imitate Curtis and failing miserably.
On the other hand he was so serious and relentless in his bad delivery for so long that I came to like it..it's like he wears those awful-but-still-extremely-successful vocals as a badge.

Hook has sung on projects before and I preferred his style to Sumner's.

New Order is maybe my favorite band, ever, and I think Sumner's voice is a large part of their charm. Probably because he sang so soulfully, and also probably because half of New Order's lyrics are flat simple and they needed to be jazzed up a bit with some off-kilter vocal work. I feel confident in saying that I've heard no band who swooned as sweepingly as they did. I also like the fact that so many of their tracks are about being let down in love and yet they managed to make that subject of 99% of every song ever recorded sound almost fresh. And like people have said here, they never made a start-to-finish legitimately great album, but all of their records have 5-6 knockouts

Yes. Favorite song is probably "Age Of Consent."
