Sometimes I just don't have words for you.

And the ahead of their time excuse makes me think they only had the mustard when given momentum by a movement.

I wasn`t being totally serious.

I looked at Master Of Puppets and said to myself 'do I like this album more than the 100 i`ve got listed?'.
The answer was no , so it`s not on here.

96. Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast (1982)

OK , this is where it all started.THIS was the first album I ever bought with my first ever wage packet. I was a 12 year old computer geek into books & things.I`d had exposure to punk at an early age. I liked it , but it didn`t really stir anything in me.So my only real exposure came in the form of chart music. I decided that I was looking for something new. I went to the record store with my friend Steven & just spent a while looking around. After a few minutes I was drawn to this album.I`d heard at least one song off it (My mother had bought the Run To The Hills single), so I bought it.
And I loved it , so much so just a couple of months later I had most Maiden , AC/DC & Van Halen albums out at the time. And my love of music just got bigger & bigger & more diverse from that moment on.
I don`t listen to this much now , in fact I don`t think I have in almost a decade but it deserves to be on here because it changed my life.

Favourite songs - 22 Acacia Avenue , Number Of The Beast , Hallowed Be Thy Name

Today
This does hold some sentimental value for me , and I do find myself listening to Iron Maiden more now than I did when I wrote the list. I still give it a spin now & again but I think if I was to choose an Iron Maiden album to go in a top 100 I would probably go with a Dianno era album , maybe Killers which I think is hugely underrated.

Original Position - 96
Position Now - Around the same , but as I can only have one album per band in the list it would have to go & Killers would be listed around 60 or 70.

95. The Pretty Things - S F Sorrow (1968)

This is a much over looked concept album that was said to have inspired The Who`s Tommy. I have to say I have absolutely no idea what that concept in this album is supposed to be. But I like not understanding everything about something , it makes it`s appeal last longer. It`s this sort of album that makes me realise I don`t listen to enough psychedelia.

Favourite songs - Bracelet Of Fingers , Balloon Burning , Defecating Sorrow (Which wasn`t on the original album)

Today

I know there are some people here who think this is a classic album but to be honest I got bored of it pretty quickly. I found myself liking their earlier rawer albums more than this one , but not enough to include any of them into a top 100.

Original Position - 95
Position Now - Out

94. Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction(1987)

I listened to this for the first time in ages a few weeks ago & couldn`t beleive how dated it sounds. That said this album is pure nostaligia for me.It was one of the first records I bought having not heard it in the charts ,I`d heard a GnR song (Shadow Of Your Love) on a compilation album (with the naff title Time To Rock) & went out & got it on import on vinyl with the original rape sleeve for my birthday long before they became successful.(God I feel old). But back then as a young teen I thought it was the greatest album ever.

Favourite songs - Welcome To The Jungle , It`s So Easy , Rocket Queen

Today
An album I grew up with and played to death in my youth. Listened to it a while back & found myself bored with most of the better known songs just because i'd heard them so much. I still enjoyed some of the tracks though and I can see why I listed it , however i'm not so sure I would now.

Original Position - 94
Position Now - Just bubbling under 100

93. Curtis Mayfield - Superfly (1972)

I first heard this about a year and a half ago when a girl I work with (A black girl with a 6 inch afro.... how appropriate ) gave me a lift to work & she was playing this in her car , and I just totally fell in love with it & went out & bought it the following day. And thus my love of blaxploitation movie soundtracks was born.

Favourite songs - Pusherman , No Thing on Me (Cocaine Song) , Superfly

Today
I still love this album a lot , but since writing the list I have heard his other stuff & find myself liking a couple of his other albums more. He'd still be on the list but just not this album.

Original Position - 93
Position Now - Around the same , but i'd have his Curtis or Roots album instead

92. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus (2004)

I can`t believe how awesome this record is. And it`s just so big sounding. It`s the kind of album i`ve been waiting for Nick Cave to come out with ever since I first heard him in 1994, before i`d always thought he was good but there was just something that stopped him coming out with a truly great album .Anyway he`s done it & this is an epic work of genius.

Favourite Songs - Get Ready for Love , Cannibal's Hymn , There She Goes My Beautiful World

Today
When I wrote this list this album had just come out & I was playing it to death. Before this album I liked Nick Cave but only individual songs rather than an entire album. Since then I have become a huge fan of Nick Cave & can see that this is probably his most commercial album he'd made up till that point. I wouldn't choose this album now , it would have to be Tender Prey and it would be a lot more higher than this.

Original Position - 92
Position Now - Out , But Tender Prey would be top 20

91. Echo And The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain (1984)

The Bunnymen`s influence on modern American indie is ****ing huge yet for some reason I don`t think they get anywhere near the credit they deserve. You ask any current Indie darlings of the press who`ve not ripped off the entire Gang Of Four back catalogue who they were inspired by & you can bet they`ll say the Bunnymen.Anyway this album was them at their peak. Their next album was their biggest selling but it`s a pale imitation of this one.

Favourite songs - The Killing Moon , Silver , Seven Seas

Today
I never really know what my favourite Bunnymen album is. It could be this , Crocodiles or Heaven Up Here. The decision would change on a daily basis. I think today I would go with Crocodiles and I would have it around this area of the chart.

Original Position - 91
Position Now - Out , With Crocodiles in it's place here

90. The Cramps - Off The Bone (1983)

OK I cheated , this is a singles compilation. But then i`ve never really been a big fan of theirs.I just like this because it`s a nice little package of their best stuff so you really don`t need to bother with the rest. And I think they did the whole 1950s B movie thing much much better than the Misfits ever did.

Favourite songs - Human Fly , Garbageman , Drug Train

Today
I'm still not a huge Cramps fan although I do like to blast them out occasionally ,and this is a pretty good summery of the best stuff at their peak. I don't think I would change anything here.

Original Position - 90
Position Now - 90

89. Nirvana - Nevermind (1991)

I really don`t need to say anything about this do I ?

Today
I still have no interest in hearing this album again , however I have found myself getting a couple of Nirvana bootlegs and listening to them for the first time in years. I think I included this album just to prove a point and for nostalgia purposes more than anything. I think I would be more likely to put In Utero rather than this although I doubt either would make the list.

Original Position - 89
Position Now - Out

88. Iggy Pop - New Values (1979)

I don`t care what anyone says , THIS is my favourite Iggy Pop album. I know people will point to Lust For Life & The Idiot , but I listen to this album more than any other Iggy album. It might not have the hit singles on it but I think overall the songs on this album are better.Disagree all you like I don`t care HA!.

Favourite songs - Tell Me A Story , I`m Bored , 5 Foot 1

Today

I still think this album is better than The idiot or Lust For Life and it gets a hell of a lot of plays by me to this day. Way too low.

Original Position - 88
Position now - Low 20s

87. Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil (1983)

Big , loud , dumb, sexist , funny as f*ck and an awful cover of the Beatles Helter Skelter , what more could you want. If you can`t smile at this you have no sense of humour whatsoever.

Favourite songs - Looks That Kill , Too Young To Fall In Love , 10 Seconds To Love

Today
This is another album on here for sentimental reasons. I've not listened to this in years but I have found myself listening to a few Motley Crue bootlegs from this era of the band and I still enjoy them regardless of the fact I know it's not very good. I'd probably still have this on the list just for the hell of it.

Original Position - 87
Position now - 100 or 99

86. Martina Topley Bird - Quixotic (2003)

Seriously i`m beginning to think i`m the only person in the world who owns this album. I mean what more do I have to say to get one of you ****ers to buy this. The woman was recently called 'the black Marlene Dietrich of Soul'. What more do you need. I swear this woman has the most gorgeous voice ever & is at home singing rock (Which has been compared to PJ Harvey), soul , ballads , blues ...just about anything. This woman is something special. For the name of God someone check her out.I`m beginning to think i`m fighting a losing battle here.

Favourite songs - Anything , Soul Food , Too Tough To Die

Today
I played this to death for about 3 years then just suddenly stopped. I still think it's a good album but I doubt it would be in any list I did now

Original Position - 86
Position Now - Out

85. The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette (1979)

I think this is a million times better than their first album. This album has all the Damned songs I grew up listening to on it so it`ll always remain close to my heart.

Favourite songs - Love Song , I Just Can`t Be Happy Today , Smash It Up

Today
I play this album to death while i'm working and it still love every track on it. And I also think it's their best album by far. This would be much much higher

Original Position - 85
Position Now - 10-20

I have it on vinyl too somewhere in my parents shed.

My biggest regret was seeing the gatefold edition & not having enough money to buy it & then going back the following week & seeing it had been sold.

These sort of things scar a 13 year old kid

Edit : i`ve got my final 100 sorted now so I should fly through this now
