That's Exploitation! Gotta love it.At least it's the classic stuff, not The Human Centipede (which I still have to see) or something like Martyrs (which I have seen and liked...yeah, sometimes seeing the screen turn blood red with a story to dig deep into is my thing). Maybe I'll throw in some modern stuff, but it may throw the focus out. For now, it's the good old days before this thing called The Internet made things easier for people to see movies. There's nothing like watching a great bad movie on the big screen!

Update for week ending February 16 2014

I'd just like to open with a brief tirade: ahem.
I HATE THE IRISH HEALTH SERVICE!!!
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oxE3LDiafW.../angryRICH.png

There. All done now. Let's go.

Anteater is moving on now that he's brought us all up to speed on the career of Gino Vanelli, and in some “Random reviews” he's looking at an album by Bob Drake, as well as five movies you can watch for free on YouTube! It's all here in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...n-dollars.html

Butthead
crying? Butthead?? Believe it, and stagger with almost dazed wonder to http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...therapy-s.html to find out what it takes to make tears roll down that tough, manly face!

Apparently, for no reason I can discern that stands up to any sort of scrutiny, it's Justin Bieber week! God help us! Kicking this off is Briks, where down in the depths of http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...seur-cave.html he's forcing himself to listen to and review the pretty boy's latest, er, album I suppose you'd have to call it. And if you think that's bad, read on...

Yeah, DJ is at it too! Having secured the release of his data from the Cloud with presumably the promise of his firstborn son, we get http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...chameleon.html for the first time in weeks now, and he's showing us that bloody album as well! Honestly guys! Have yiz no pride? You wouldn't find me doing that... Gotta have some standards! Good to see ya back though man!

Although he has categorically stated “this is not a journal”, I feel that Freebase Dali's status as a member here demands I mention http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nd-i-like.html, which is where he's going to drop, well, songs he likes and wants to remember. More may develop, you never know, but for now I think we look on this as FD's personal music version of Dropbox...

What's Goofle listening to this week? Check out http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html to find out. Oh all right then I'll give you a clue: Lumbar, Arctic Monkeys, Katy B, Coat Hangers...

Speaking of people it's good to see back (I recognise the irony in that statement, yes) Janszoon favours us with an entry in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...sible-man.html. I had hoped this was coming, as he mentioned something about some album being good to write to late at night, so my hopes were high. Luckily I guessed right, and this week we hear about his crossing over into the good side of town, the affluent side (The Invisible Man, that is, not Jansz: and has anyone else noticed the acronym is TIM? Huh? Huh?) and joining a party, boogeying to the Balkan music of Goran Bregnovich. Again, not my style at all musically but always worth it for the prose. Another fine entry Jansz, especially the last sentence! :thumb:

Having sorted himself out after his frankly inexcusable absence last week (;)) Ki is back and in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-music.html he has music from Devin Townsend, Paradise Lost and Pokemon as well as the officially worst ELP album ever made.

Plankton
has a new journal! In http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-mellowed.html he's looking at songs that relax him, chill him out, starting off with Jeff Beck and The Gypsy Kings. Will certainly be worth keeping tabs on.

After coming to an amicable arrangement with my lawyers, Powerstars is now contractually obliged and required to review a Pink Floyd album. He's chosen “Dark side” (good man!) --- hear his thoughts in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...sicalness.html

Speaking of me (were we?) there's a bit happening in my journals this week. In http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html we have attempted to bring some soul music in, and are reviewing albums by George Benson and Luther Vandross in a new section I'm calling, with stunning originality, “Soul2Soul”, cos there are two albums each time. Geddit? Soul 2 ... aw forget it then. What? No, not that's it. Nothing else this week. Hmm? Oh. Yeah. Well I suppose there is that.

Yes, people, I have been guilted into reviewing the damn Bieber album too. Spoiler for those of you who don't want to know:
Spoiler for What I thought of "Believe" (May surprise you!):
I hated it. What? I said MAY surprise you, not WILL surprise you! BOOO! There! Surprised? ;)
! Still writing a lot of material for http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html, so no new entries this week, but plenty coming in the next few days, I promise! How about some http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ver-heard.html? We finally have that one Urban kept bugging me about. Yeah, “Screamadelica”. See what I thought about it, and look for more soon.

What do you mean, is that it? Didn't I tell you I was writing tons of stuff for the Couch Potato? What do you mean, you don't believe me? No, you can't see it! Cos it's top secret, eyes only is why! I could show it to you but then I'd have to kill you. Look, trust me, it's just better this way. Some of this stuff will blow your mind. Maybe. All --- or some – will be revealed next week. Promise. Look, would I lie to you? ;)
http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/br...trenchcoat.jpg

Everyone's getting excited about, and involved in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...y-history.html now that Unknown Soldier has hit that time period where many of us grew up and began to get into metal. Ah the early eighties! The NWOBHM was at its height and wonderful bands like Motorhead and Judas Priest were making their mark. In fact, that's what you'll find in his journal this week: Motorhead and Judas Priest. And much more to come! I tell ya, that takes me back...

Urban's been working on both his journals this week. In http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-stuff.html you'll find a sort of review of Floyd's “Ummagumma” (!) while there's plenty going on over at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...who-thing.html, with the apparently hilarious “The web planet” as well as a tribute to director Chris Barry, who passed away recently.

And finally, YorkeDaddy is the fourth one of us to rise to the challenge of (or be fooled into) reviewing the Bieber album. To get the nasty taste out of his mouth though he's also presenting his top 100 albums in a list. It's all about http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-personal.html

And now, to our
http://www.trollheart.com/quill.jpg
I thought about being really smart and posting my review of Justin Bieber's “Believe” in the style of Urban, but come on: I'm not going to pick one of my own posts, am I? So here instead is Butthead in a rare sensitive moment. Enjoy!

What this is:

-Specific moments in time where I was listening to a song and cried. The crying or near-crying was over a female.
-Inspired by a nostalgic plug.dj session weeks ago.

What this isn't:

-Songs that make me cry when I listen to them.
-Songs that almost make me cry when I listen to them.
-Songs that make me sad when I listen to them.

I am risking the removal of my sac by admitting this, but I have cried or come close to crying because of a girl before. To sound less like a pussy, I will start this shindig off by saying that I am anti-crying and probably haven't cried in 5 years with the exception of the time my dog got unexpected lung cancer and I had to put the ole boy down. But if you don't cry over putting a pet down, then you are likely an empty, soulless, cadaver of a human being. Back when butthead aka 216 was merely a young boy, he did not have the gargantuan coconuts dangling between his legs that he has today. No sir, he had small raisins which produced feels and emotional instability. These are all accounts of my teenage and early college years, when my testes actually fit comfortably in my briefs.

1) Archie Star - Let's Get Married

Back when I was 17ish, I ditched everything that my older friends told me, and turned a casual friends with benefits situation to a real relationship over a few months. My naive self wasn't content enough to be balls deep several times a week with no commitment or obligations, apparently. In the way that most storybook romances begin, I put it in her butt, then swigged MD 20/20 with her for a few hours before telling her I loved her and passing out in her basement. Thus, a relationship was born.

So, she had an athletic scholarship roughly half way across the country, which I knew going into the relationship. I figured I would just do what I had always done: Refuse to plan ahead and mentally block out the fact that she would someday be moving to the midwest and I wouldn't. I had always been the type to think about crossing bridges only when there was nowhere else to walk. Plan worked well until the day before she was set to board a plane to out-of-my-life-ville and then an avalanche of feels rained down on me with the force of a thousand monsoons. Myself and a handful of friends went to this festival where buffalo wing companies competed for top prize. On the way home, my friend Tara was driving with me in the passenger seat. We had a summer mixtape in the CD player and this song came on and I teared up like a wittle beebee... Tonight, I say let's just get outta this town, lets go to Seattle, watch rain fall to the ground... We had kinda jokingly discussed during pillowtalk about how cool it would be to someday just pack up and move to wherever together. But it's like getting older: When you're young, you have all these dreams and plans that you know will never happen, but the fact that there is still time left in the hourglass gives you some sort of weird false hope that you allow yourself to feel. But then the hourglass starts running out and you no longer have time on your side - the dreams are officially deceased.

I tried to do the tears-running-stone-face-wow-i-look-stoic-and-tough thing but the lip quivered and it was all over. I nearly drowned in my tears. Nobody in the car understood why I was crying so suddenly, but it was a combination of having a great night with my best friends and the realization that tomorrow I'd likely never see my girlfriend again, and we had never really talked about it. Planning wasn't my best feature.

2) Bush - Swallowed

So the next day, she leaves for wherever-the-fukc. I drive to her house one last time and it's a total wahhhhh-fest between myself, her family, her, etc. I start up the car to leave and this song comes on. Her favorite band was Bush so we listened to them a ton, and this particular CD happened to be in my stereo system... I'm with everyone and yet not... Gotta get away from here, gotta get away from here... I miss the one that I love a lot... Miss the one that I love a lot... There was a feeling of uncertainty and I had that feeling in my stomach where you kinda wanna barf but there's nothing there to vomit.

I took the back roads home and parked up the street from my parents house in this little indentation in the woods and just sat there sobbing for awhile. Partly because I didn't want my step-dad thinking I had a twat and partly because once I entered the house, I knew my weekend would be spend throwing a 1 person pity party in my room. I pretty much sobbed all weekend to the Razorblade Suitcase and Sixteen Stone albums.

3) Incubus - Stellar

If you are wondering why this is mainly involving the same girl, it's because following this relationship I learned how to deal with relationship issues like an adult: Heavy drinking with drunken shouting matches followed by apologetic yet bitter voicemails messages. So that girl ended up moving far, far away but she planned on transferring colleges once she found a match that was closer. In the meantime, I arranged to travel east to one of her away matches that was closest to home. We had a mutual friend at the college she was playing at, so I made the trip to see her. They lost the game.

I guess it was an important one or whatever, because after the game she was not nearly as happy to see me as I was to see her. My heart sunk like a battleship and I am pretty sure I lost the color in my face. When I regained color, it was probably a bright red, half due to pure anger and half due to embarrassment that I drove several hours alone for what amounted to a quick hello. Ok, it was a little more than that, but I remember her being really short with me and kind of in a hurry to get out of there. In hindsight, she was probably cheating on me with some guy named Jamal in St. Louis and felt shame in looking me in the eye, but anyways... I hopped into my car and drove 100 the whole way home. Again, the mixtape got to me when this song came on. By this time, my large sac had begun to grow so I no longer had the capability to cry like a bitch. I did the angry-teeth-grinding-cry on the drive home. As I approached my parents' driveway I felt my tear ducts glue themselves shut to preserve my penis. That was the last time I cried over a girl.

And so we close the door and thank you for coming, Please leave quietly and do not take any souvenirs with you --- no, not Goofle's masterlist! And you there, put DJ's razor prop down! Come on: hand them over. Thanks for your custom, hope to see you again next week.

Till then,
Toodles!

Goofle 02-16-2014 05:20 PM

Masterlist :D

Good work as per.

No Sunday update?? :(

Isbjørn 02-25-2014 03:50 AM

He hasn't been posting at all the last few days. Sure hope everything's fine.

Trollheart 02-25-2014 10:44 AM

Sorry guys. Sister had to go into hospital last Monday night (Feb 17) and is only due home tomorrow. Between spending 5/6 hours a day visiting here and having been been sick myself with a virus haven't been able to even think of going near the computer. Missed the update yes but with the way things went I would have had to rush it and make a mess of it. Would rather do a proper, double one this Sunday.

Sorry for the delay; thanks to those who were worried about me, but you should know, you cannot kill what does not live! ;)

Seriously, thanks and I'll be back to full annoyance factor shortly.
TH

Update for week ending February 23 2014

Don't worry I got this weeks covered.

This week in Urban's Doctor Who Thing I did an awesome review of Warriors Of The Deep and also looked at a Doctor Who / Monty Python crossover, as well as posting some other rather cool videos to watch.
You can read such awesome content HERE

Oh and some other people updated theirs too.

Yer Urban treated us to the gem known as "Warriors of the Deep" and on mine there was some hot stuff by Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.

Update for week ending March 2 2014

https://cdn1.iconfinder.com/data/ico.../Hourglass.png
There's a shadowy, spooky netherworld where time seems to pass at a different rate to the rest of the world, where harsh neon lights glare down at you like angry angels who know what you've done and don't approve in the slightest, and where the sound of an approaching footstep kindles brief hope in a heart in which all hope is slowly dying, only for that hope to be extinguished as the footsteps fade away, echoing into the distance and your personal darkness closes in around you once more, suffocating, smothering, as your eyes stray, almost fearfully but inexorably, towards the white plain clock on the wall and you wonder how many more hours will pass before you get out of this hellhole?

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what passes for Accident and Emergency in Ireland. A&E, where if your wait is less than six hours you'd be deliriously happy. Where people moan and toss and snarl and cough on hard steel trollies, vainly awaiting a proper bed in a ward, where ambulances come and ambulances go, and where the sighting of a real doctor is rarer than one of Bigfoot or Elvis. A&E, where they kindly provide you chairs which must have been donated by some Spanish Inquisition enthusiast, and where the TV always shows the worst possible programmes. A&E, where patients, nurses and paramedics tramp the corridors endlessly, like doomed lost souls never to again see the light of day, and occasionally a name will get called, someone will look up in hope and almost amazement that they're finally going to be seen, while the rest slump back down in their chairs, try to get comfortable --- impossible --- or grab some sleep --- equally impossible --- while outside the sun rises on another day.

A&E in Ireland: the living proof that a two-tier health system only allows those at the bottom rung to be ground down while those who can afford it have to suffer none of the delays, indignities or frustrations endured by we who are, almost, the Dead in terms of healthcare. What a country! :banghead:

Which rambling intro just serves to preface why there was no update last week, why even this one is a day late, and why I can't honestly guarantee this won't happen again. When your sister is sick and the ambulance has to be called, you can only hope and pray that you'll get back to the house before the council agree it must have been abandoned and change the locks. But these things have to be done.

And so we come, finally and very late, with my apologies, to the most recent update, which happens through no design of mine to now encompass both the last update of February and the first of March. Is that the sun I see? No? Just another fluorescent light, you say? Well, let's push on anyway. Here's what the industrious inhabitants of Journaltown have been up to while I've been sitting in the emergency room, dreaming of a big steak dinner and a comfortable bed...

Anteater
is telling us about his “Band of the week”, a local outfit called Galactic Cowboys, as well as looking back into his childhood and zeroing in on the bands who influenced his musical preferences, with first up the powerful prog rock trio of Gentle Giant, Camel and, er, Zep. Hey, they had their prog moments! It's all here in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...n-dollars.html

Having ripped me off to the nth degree, Briks is now finally settling into his own style again, sort of, in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...seur-cave.html, with “Essential emo albums I have never heard”, featuring so far Jawbreaker, Cap'n Jazz and Taking Back Sunday , though why he'd want to hear albums recorded by large Australian flightless birds I don't .... oh, I see! Emo. NOT emu. I understand. Still, sounds like that could have been fun... He's also “in the mood for some metal”, with Manowar and Metallica (hey, who isn't?) and “Unprepared for the worst” with a look at Modest Mouse. And he's talking Coldplay too. Hey, is he trying to outdo Ki or something?

Butthead, interestingly, is also looking at Taking Back Sunday, though in fairness he seems to have got there first in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...therapy-s.html, which seems to be where our man Briks got the idea for his journal entry. Ah, inspiration has many fathers, or something...

Engine is back to talk to us about http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...avy-music.html from Toronto, focussing particularly on that band he loves, Mare

and while he was adamant it was not a journal per se, Freebase Dali's http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nd-i-like.html shows signs of threatening to become one, as he discusses the merits of one Igorr. Meanwhile

in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html our favourite walking music encyclopaedia is checking out Natalie Imbruglia (wouldn't we all love to?), OneRepublic and rather a lot of one Mister Timberlake, as well as The Raincoats and a band called Houndmouth, whom I may have to give a listen to, given he turned me on to Strawfoot. Hmm, what's next I wonder? Papertoes? Metalfingers? ;)

Not content with working superhard on one journal, Ki is starting a second one, of which more in a mo. In his original, http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-music.html he's fighting his case for Dio not being the man for Sabbath (to which I say a resounding BOO!), waxing lyrical about Steven Wilson, ZZ and Riverside and then based off an idea planted in his head by yours truly in response to his dig at ELP's “Love beach” last time out, http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...le-albums.html is just what it says: Ki reviews (well, mini-reviews) some albums he deems to be well below the grade. Starting off with Sabbath, Sigur Ros and AC/DC and moving on into Linkin Park and Theocracy. Also, he finally realises what a turd Asia's “XXX” is. Man, I've been trying to tell you that for over a year now!

Things are beginning to happen now here in Journaltown, as no less than three vacant houses have been snapped up, the first of which has become the residence of the supernaturally beautiful and talented RoxyRollah, who is opening http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...doras-box.html and letting us all glimpse the wonders inside. With music from We are Trees, LSD and the search for God, Witch, Dead City Emily and oh loads more, plus a really great and fun writing style that shows this lady has tons of brains to go with her beauty, you'll need to probably light one up and head on into the bead-screened recesses of her very different cave. Don't be afraid now, she doesn't bite. That costs extra. ;)

More cut out joy for Screen 13 in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...all-music.html, with music from MC5, Iggy, Big Star and, er, Scraping Foetus from the Wheel... is that the Religious Right I hear banging down the door? Go away! We're all just holograms here!

Another new journal, one of two written by apparently people who do not consider English their first language, comes from Silenzio as she begins the first brush strokes on http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mix-music.html and tells us all about what music means to her, with a review of an album by Danish indie band Efterklang. Looks like this one could be well worth watching.

If it's Japanese or French bands you want to know about then check out http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...c-journal.html, the last of our new journals, and another written by a non-English speaker. I honestly don't know if Totsama is male or female, and many male Japanese names end in -a so that's no guarantee. But man or woman, boy or girl, this journal looks to be another that will be going places, with already featured Aunt Sally, Guernica and Serge Gainsborough.

After my adventures in the land of A&E you'll not be too surprised to find that I haven't exactly done a lot in my own journals, but I've managed to squeeze in the odd update. So in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html there's a review of that Strawfoot album, a new section called “Say what?” and I finally begin the review of Progarchives' Top 100 Prog Albums of 2013. Well, I transfer one of the two reviews done so far from my old thread to my journal, with the first one being Cosmograf's “The man left in space.” http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html is mostly concerned with new, upcoming series to be featured soon, with Robin of Sherwood and Life on Mars so far, though I have also engineered the triumphant return of Francis Urquhart in the second part of the “House of cards” trilogy, “To play the king.” Lots more to come.

http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...y-history.html is all about the NWOBHM now, as we delve into the best of 1980, and Unknown Soldier looks at some brilliant albums, including the debut from Iron Maiden, as well as Sabbath, AC/DC and perhaps an odd choice for his number one album from that year? I don't think you'll be expecting it...

My thanks to Urban for trying to fill my tired shoes and sitting in my chair last week, but his update was, ah, how can I put this? A little too Urban-centric? ;) Doesn't change the fact that in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...who-thing.html he's continuing to look at some of the worst DW episodes ever, with the truly awful “Warriors of the deep” and yes, a Monty Python/Doctor Who crossover. Well, sort of. Oh, and big news for you Urban: I'm about to gatecrash your party and step on your toes with my dainty size sevens! Keep watching the skies! Well, actually, you'd be all better watching “The Couch Potato”, where the announcement will be made...

With video game soundtracks, Chvrches and music from Brian Eno, http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-personal.html is well worth a read, even when he's drunk. Or not.

Finally, Zero would like to officially thank an unnamed counter assistant at a record store for NOT selling him Papa Roach's “Infest.” Find out why at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-sound.html

And so to this week's
http://www.trollheart.com/quill.jpg
He probably won't thank me for it, but I just felt I had to say “NYA NYA NYA! Told you so!” so here it is, as Ki finally sees the light. He's made some perhaps questionable claims in his journals about, among others, Dio and AC/DC, and maybe one day he'll be retracing those too. Or not. But at least he's man enough to admit he's seen the error of his ways and that after thirty years of producing quality albums, Asia have finally, it seems, run out of ideas.

  • It took me longer than necessary to realize how bad this album is.
  • In comparison to the rest of their catalog, this one is by far their worst, it has no traditional Asia sound to it.
  • I do wish I had realized it sooner but I believe I was still in my younger Asia loving days when I first heard this album, because it was of course when I figured any Asia album would be good.
  • You were right Trollheart, this album sucks.

And that, ladies and gentlebeings, takes us finally to the end of a well-overdue update. Again, apologies for the delay but sometimes real life has a habit of grabbing you by the scruff and demanding your attention, and it's hard, nay impossible to say no. As long as we have no more upheavals this week I should be back to the usual update at the usual time on the usual day. Fingers crossed!

Till then (or whenever)

Update for week ending March 9 2014

Things have sort of settled down this week (no mad rush to the hospital in an ambulance, so that's progress as far as I'm concerned!) leaving me to present the usual weekly update without too much trouble. This week we have a new journal starting up and the return of an old favourite, but the big news is there is still no sign of the Batlord! Where are you man? Your people need you...

Before I get to the updates though, just a small and inadequate note of thanks to all of you who have read and commented in “The Couch Potato”, which this week reached the milestone of 10,000 views, pretty phenomenal for something that has only been going for slightly less than a year! Thanks for proving journals other than those exclusively centred on music would be interesting to people here too, and I hope and intend to make “The Couch Potato” even better in its second year.

Briks therefore kicks us off and down in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...seur-cave.html he's getting all metalled up --- perhaps in an attempt to plug the gap left in our lives by the absence of the True Metalhead (Oh! How ironic! A self-confessed poseur saving your metal bacon, Batty!) --- with albums from Metallica, Death, Venom, Helloween and more!

On Goofle's list are Aesop Rock, Wild Moths and um, Barefoot Dance of the Sea, which was featured in a hilarious section last week by Urban. Catch these and more in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html

That new journal of which I spoke comes from GuitarBizarre, and seems to be for the moment concentrating on how music is made on the guitar (appropriately enough I guess) as http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mportance.html

while Ki's two journals are, interestingly, lined up beneath each other. In http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-music.html our workaholic friend is looking at Tool, Swans and Stray Cats, among others, while over at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...le-albums.html he's considering the merits, or lack of, of Anathema's “Weather systems”. Not a big Anathema fan myself, surprise surprise!

Powerstars assures us he'll be back soon, laden down with CDs he got for his birthday recently. Keep checking http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...sicalness.html!

Roxy opens http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...doras-box.html again to expound on the delights of Exitmusic, see below for further...

and newcomer Silenzio talks about Wake Owl and Geographer in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mix-music.html

which takes us to me. I've been trying to get more updates done this week to make up for the lack of same in the last two weeks, so in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html we have another Return to Childhood, a review of Balance of Power's “Heathen machine” as well as new section Trollheart's Singles Bar and a long-overdue visit to the Meat Grinder. Meanwhile big things continue to happen over at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html, with the penultimate episode of Mayday, the return of Spooks and Love/Hate, and my announcement that I will after all be covering Doctor Who, though only the newer series. And believe me there is still tons more to come.

Expecting everyone to jump to Ozzy's defence, Unknown Soldier seems somewhat bemused that we all more or less agree with him that the ex-Sabbath singer's solo career was pretty much a train wreck. Read all about what he has to say in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...y-history.html

and don't forget to check out http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-stuff.html for more of his hilarious, unique album reviews and covers.

Finally (and aptly), in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-sound.html Zero asks “When is a phone not a phone?”

So who's this week's pick for
http://www.trollheart.com/quill.jpg
I thought long and hard about this one, and in the end I feel I have to award it to Roxy, whose journal is coming on really well. You won't mind honey if I delete the massive image will you? After all, it's the writing we're concerned with. Here we go...

Exitmusic: Passage ('12)

Nashville, Tennessee 2004: 2 hits of super clean lsd, neon, candles, and flowers everywhere, I spent a lifetime lost inside someone else's soul one night in July. Ten years later at 5:00 am on a Tuesday a "recommended" Spotify click sent me back to the future. What I mean by that is during this 5 minute and 40 second long journey, I had the most vivid memory I think I have ever experienced in my life. I wish I could say I was being dramatic, and writing that just for the sake of sounding cool, but I am not, those are my deepest feelings. And every sense I had that evening back in 2004 hit me like a ton of bricks. Overwhelming happiness, laughter, the feel of skin on skin, teeth on flesh, anticipation, joy, sadness, loss, peace, and the feeling of being completely stripped bare in front of someone else and it being ok! Is the only real peace in this life I have ever known to be truthful with you. To know someone else, and have them know me. Introverts, no matter how introverted still desire to be seen by others, just not by the masses but by the right few. Songs can embody heaven, heaven can be felt through a connection with someone, and music can connect you to someone, even when they are gone. Passage is perfectly tailored to the dream pop lover, the shoegaze fanatic, and the hopeless romantic that I know is in there, even if you don't admit it ;) I have a thing for the wall of sound, and the build up to it. I have a thing for shaky vocals. But what the hell do I know anyway right? I just know how music makes me feel, I know the experiences that have impacted and shaped me for the better, and I know a memory with a soundtrack is better then a silent one. So my darlings I leave you with Exitmusic.....
(Video not shown as per standard rules for this thread, but you can of course hear it if you go to Roxy's journal, which would probably be one of the smartest moves you could make this week).

So as things begin to get somewhat back on track, there aren't a huge amount of updates this week but what there are are definitely worth reading. Don't forget, if you'd like to try your hand at journal writing it's as easy as starting a thread in the journals section and once it's approved you're part of our community here in Journaltown, and will feature in each weekly update post.

Until next week,
Toodles!

Actually it's just part of my plan to bring down the fellowship of True Metal that has been growing for the last forty-four years. The first step is gaining the metalheads' trust before I lure them into the hell that is false metal. Please don't tell anyone.

Like to just express my delight at how quickly all my journal posts are getting approved in recent days. I mean literally, lightning speed! Thanks to whomever is doing this, if one person, or you all if that's the case. Really appreciated. I'm quick to moan when there's a delay so think it's only fair I should give credit when and where it's due.

Great job, guys! :thumb:

Update for week ending March 16 2014

Jesus Holy ****ing Christ on a unicycle going backwards down the Jersey Tunnel whistling Dixie while reading aloud from Marx's “Das Kapital” in heavily-accented Greek and juggling live porcupines! Hospital AGAIN! I am so sick of that place! Gaaahhhh!

Anyway, having got that off my chest, taken my pills and calmed down a little now, this did happen on Thursday so I had some time to put up a few updates of my own. Let's see what everyone else has been up to here, shall we?

Anteater
is talking about some of my favourite artistes, including the late Dan Fogelberg and The Alan Parsons Project, as well as a lot more music from his childhood in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...n-dollars.html

Briks, meanwhile, has been skiing (well, not really, but he is Norwegian!) but still found time to review albums by Green Day, Pantera and Mercyful Fate. Oh, and ... Coldplay?

Butthead is a little more interested in talking about women, strippers and, er, women strippers than music this week in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...therapy-s.html. Hey man! Need some good emo recs, y'know?

http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html has the likes of Food For Animals, Thou, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks and that Babymetal album in it. And he's also giving a good listen to Junkyard Donner's band's new single, of which more shortly.

Like now. Yeah, her band have released their first single, with more tracks from their debut album to follow. Not my thing but well executed and everyone except me seems to like it. Catch the sample at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-tripping.html then head to their Bandcamp page and download it. If you like it. Which you probably will. Since everyone seems to. Except me. I'm weird.

Ki has been giving Owl City a good listen in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-music.html

Another new journal opens as Pet Sounds introduces us to http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ly-review.html --- now this one sounds interesting!

As promised last week, the mighty Powerstars is back and he's looking at the Killers' “Sam's Town”, in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...sicalness.html

Queen of the unfeasibly large image as she's becoming, Roxy has reviews of music from Pomegranates and Lower Dens in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...doras-box.html

Silenzio
, on the other hand, is getting all cultured and classical with cello music by Bach as played by Yo-Yo Ma and, er, Avro Part? Big in Estonia, apparently. Read all about it in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mix-music.html. She's also looking at Wild Nothing...

So what have I been up to, you say, other than watching the world from the back of an ambulance and getting a sore behind from sitting on hospital waiting room seats, watching a clock tick off the hours from night time to morning to afternoon to evening and back to night ....? Well, there's a review of the Alan Parsons Project's “The turn of a friendly card” in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html, as well as The French Revolution revisited in “Great moments in history set to music”, while http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html has the return of Alan B'Stard as The New Statesman as well as more Babylon 5, and we draw close to the end of the first season of Les Revenants. Don't expect any answers though. And did someone say “Edgar Allan Poe”? Watch this space! Oh yeah: preview of the coverage of the BBC version of “The Hitch-hiker's guide to the Galaxy” too...

Having thoroughly pounded 1980, Unknown Soldier moves on from the initial rush of the NWOBHM into a slightly more settled 1981, with albums first up from Cirith Ungol and UFO.

I haven't had the time until now to read http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...who-thing.html this week, but hell, who needs to read it really, to know it's going to be great? Everything this guy writes turns to gold. Now that I do look at it, It's only a tiny entry (ooeer!) this week but once again it's comedy paydirt, so go on and treat yourself. He says he's working on the TV movie: can't wait to see the result of that one! And let's not forget http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-stuff.html where he has another “WTF?” moment in music.

YorkeDaddy plays us out this week with a chance to listen to some of his own ambient music --- and by that I mean composed and played by him, not his favourite by another artiste --- which certainly fulfils the brief of http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-personal.html, so get on there and have a listen!

The older members may grumble (us older people always do; there's so much to grumble about these days!) that I'm awarding best post in the last few weeks to the young whippersnappers, but firstly I think they deserve to be exterminated, sorry encouraged (still working on my Doctor Who entries) and secondly, they're coming up with some really good, insightful and thoughtful posts. So I hope all you crusty old journal authors out there will forgive me if I throw down the red carpet and award the bouquet of flowers to the lovely Silenzio, who is this week's
http://www.trollheart.com/quill.jpg
The main reason is that I think she's stepping beyond the usual boundaries here. I know I've featured the odd classical album and have even got an occasional section on the genre, but this entry brings a real sense of personal love and interest to classical music, and I think it deserves to be read. As does her entire journal, so far.

The Cello Suites: Inspired By Bach - Yo-Yo Ma

http://s.pixogs.com/image/R-150-1230793-1258465153.jpeg

In my opinion, the Six suites for unaccompanied cello are one of the most interesting chamber compositions of Bach. I personally like them a lot, since the cello has such a warm sound.
I as well enjoyed the rich tone that Yo-Yo Ma creates, although I don't know extremely much about chello playing techniques, I think he does that really well. The arpeggiated patterns sound at least perfect!
The album was released in 1997, quite some time back.

Track list

Suite No. 1 in G Major -- BWV 1007
(Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuett, Gigue)

Suite No. 2 in D Minor -- BWV 1008
(Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuett, Gigue)

Suite No. 3 in C Major -- BWV 1009
(Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Bourrée, Gigue)

Suite No. 4 in E-flat Major -- BWV 1010
(Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Bourrée, Gigue)

Suite No. 5 in C Minor -- BWV 1011
(Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gavotte, Gigue)

Suite No. 6 in D Major -- BWV 1012
(Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gavotte, Gigue)

Structure of the suites
Basically, all have 6 movements:

Prelude: most literal it means introduction, a brief yet improvisatory piece of music
Allemande: In French it means "German", must-have of a suite, a serious dance
Courante: literally means running, it's a passionate piece with a clear melody
Sarabande: A dance in triple metre, originally a slow, stately Spanish dance
Galanteries: movements that initiate a change of style, after that follow mostly non-familiar pieces;
(Bach used Minuets, Bourrées and Gavottes in his chello suites)
Gigue: Final dance of a suite. It seems a bit lively since it often has accents on the third beats in the bar.

To me it was important to listen to the full work to inhale the complete flair of the baroque style. Usually I just listen to a prelude and the melody gets stuck in my head.
As I know from practicing baroque pieces, it's maybe even better to be considerate and keep an overview. Although, it's really lovely to get lost in music!
Luckily I convinced myself to listen to the other suites. I must admit - I actually only ever heard the first one.
I'm sure you all know the prelude of the first suite very well. It's used for many TV ads! ;)

(Video removed as per: check her journal for the YouTube)

The 1st prelude is a reminder of the Prelude in C major of the Well-Tempered Clavier. That is the technique characterizes Bach! To tell the truth, I never expected the other suites to be that interesting.
The highlight of the 2nd suite is maybe the Sarabande, it's deep. In contrast, the following suite seems to be really sunny. The 4th suite sounds pretty complex in general. The 5th seems to rely on feelings.
Last but not least - the 6th suite to be so dramatic and ambitious. The final Gigue is a duo for a solo instrument. Incredible!

I can imagine it must takes months to be able to play any of these suites, stunning! Truly it is admirable, with what kind of ambition and feeling people play their instrument and create such wonderful sounds.
It may sounds funny, but it's worth taking time, sitting down and just listen closely.

Thanks for that, Silenzio! Nice way to end this week's update, and cross your fingers that this is the last we've seen of Beaumont Hospital! If things go to plan (do they ever?) I hope to have a lot of new material for my two main journals next week, and maybe even squeeze in an update or two on the ones that have been neglected for most of this year. We'll see. Either way, those of you who are writing, keep up the good work. Those of you who are reading, hope you're continuing to enjoy it. Those of you who are thinking of trying this, come and have a go if you think you're hard enough! Seriously, just try it: I won't say it's easy but it sure is fun.

Till next week, Journalads and Journalettes,
Toodles!

I like Viva la Vida, but the title track gets boring after the millionth time hearing it. Avoid Mylo Xyloto altogether, unless you want to relive JB week.

Update for week ending March 23 2014

It's a well-guarded secret, but if you sail right out to the horizon, then sail west for a full day, east for another full day, then neither east, west, north or south for another two days you will eventually come to an island which is on no map known to man. Only the very brave or the very foolhardy attempt to visit here, but if you have the right stuff and decide to land on the island's shores, and make your way inland for about three miles you will see as you go a gradual increase in warning signs that scream things like “No Trolls on pain of death!” and “Zero Tolerance Area for Spam.” Cresting the rise of the last hill you will find yourself looking down into a valley which is as quiet and undisturbed as anything that Time may have forgotten. If you're very lucky, and very quiet, you may catch a glimpse of the residents of Journaltown busily going about their daily tasks, muttering to themselves, tapping ipads or nodding their heads, those heads crowned with large expensive headphones.Step lightly, and respect their privacy (no photographs or videos please) and you may be invited to view the Jobs Board in the centre of town, where each member of Journaltown posts his or her articles, and where they often hint at what they intend to do next. Do be careful though, because though they seem like quiet, unassuming little creatures these Journalads and Journalettes are subtle and quick to anger, and will turn upon anyone who gets in the way of their work. But if you're prepared to abide by the rules here and give them their space, you may witness wonders and have tales to take back with you on the long voyage home....Now that he's introduced us to the prog rock phase of his childhood, Anteater is moving on to the influences that bore on him with regard to Heavy Metal in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...n-dollars.html, with bands like Scorpions and Deep Purple featuring prominently.Continuing the Heavy Metal theme, Briks has been trying out “Chunks of Metal” (TM, all rights reserved Briks Enterprises MMXIV) with Amon Amarth, Blizzard of Oz and Bon Jovi, to name a few, the last of whom he dealt with very harshly! There will be blood at dawn, I tells ya! Catch his impressions by heading on down to http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...seur-cave.htmlDJ is back! Taking http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...chameleon.html for the first time in quite a while we find him talking about Sixx AM and a festival in Austin called the SXSW, which apparently can give rise to some of the next big things in music. Interesting.

Pop quiz, hotshot! What do Lou Reed, Zara McFarlane and Restiform Bodies all have in common? They're all on http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html, as well as a whole lot more.

Which takes us to Ki, and he's listening to, among others, Riverside, Black Sun Aeon and The Foreshadowing in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-music.html while some of the latest to make it onto the list on http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...le-albums.html include Radiohead and the Beatles! Hope you've got your safehouse sorted, man!

http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ly-review.html is going great guns since its startup last week, with Pet Sounds checking out songs by Buddy Holly, Smokey Robinson and Jackson Browne, as well as one selected by our man Briks. All getting very exciting in there! Oh, did I mention a six-foot American alligator?

Here I sound a note of caution: our Sara, known to us as the Phanastasio has been in a bad place and if you read her latest entry in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...s-ashland.html it makes tough and upsetting reading, rather like Steph's entry a few months back. But like that sad article you really should read this one. I think she's ok now but applaud her for having the courage to put such personal stuff on the internet. All I can do is send my best wishes, which I'm sure are echoed by everyone here.

There's a rare update from PsycheDub Dude in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ool-stuff.html where he's talking about an acoustic guitarist called John Butler. I say rare: his last update was September of last year!

I think that girl secretly enjoys reviewing bands with hard-to-spell or obscure names just to make it tough for me! Oh well. Silenzio is this week looking at Steve Moakler, Ludovico Einaudi and Cage the Elephant (see what I mean?) in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mix-music.html

A new journal this week comes to us courtesy of Tristesse, who is the one http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...tristesse.html apparently. Looking first time out at the Fratellis, Kenickie and rather a lot of Katy Perry! Wouldn't we all like to do that? :shycouch:

There are, as ever, big things planned for my journals, to be revealed soon(ish), but for now I'm starting a new section called “Klassic Korner: Classic Albums I HAVE heard” and kicking it off with Floyd's undoubted timeless classic “Animals” in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html while in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html there are intros for “Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy” and, um, “The Apprentice”. Shut up: it's my journal, see! Also some Supernatural to keep you going. Big, big things are on the horizon! (yeah you say that every week Trollheart! No, I mean it this time! Yeah, believe it when we see it etc.. You just wait etc you'll eat your words mutter mutter...)

1981 continues to throw out great albums by great bands as Unknown Soldier delves into Saracen, Van Halen and Praying Mantis to name but three. All can be found as ever in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...y-history.html

The epic is finally up! Urban has completed his review of the Doctor Who TV movie and it is well worth reading. If you haven't yet sampled the delights of http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...who-thing.html now would be a great time to start. He's also got some really interesting music crossover stuff from the sixties: people knew how to cash in back then. Uh...

And so we come to this week's
http://www.trollheart.com/quill.jpg
I thought long and hard about awarding this to Sara's entry in her journal this week, but decided in the end that would only be cheapening what she went through. Yes, I know to say such a thing is private when she has written it in her journal might seem a contradiction, but to my mind those who know her will read her account there, and I don't believe it would be right for me to sensationalise it here, even though it easily wins the contest for this week. Instead, have this.

To be honest, I'm not that impressed with the post per se --- it's great but why should it be picked as post of the week, you ask? Well, just read the intro, that's all I have to say. As they used to remark in Marvel Comics, 'nuff said!

Good evening, fellow Music Banterers. As you probably didn't notice, I neglected to post last night. I will not elaborate on the reasons, except for saying that it involved a six-foot American alligator. However, the track's lyrics really weren't worth reviewing. Here they are, see for yourself. But without further ado, I present tonight's program...

Time to Pretend - MGMT

To me, these lyrics are about the rock star lifestyle, "Make some music, make some money, find some models for wives" and how it comes with its own baggage. "The models will have children, we'll get a divorce, we'll find some more models, everything must run its course." How many times has that happened? This is why I don't think I'd want to be a star. The story is always the same in the end. Divorces, affairs, drugs... pretending to have a decent life. I challenge somebody to show me a rock star with one marriage. I'm sure there are a few, but I honestly can't think of one. The song ends with a Jimi Hendrix reference: "We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end."

Apparently, they're actually about the life cyle of the praying mantis. Hmm.

I'll give them a 7/10. Not life-changing, but not a turn-off, either. I don't think I could write better lyrics myself.

Tomorrow, I review Sunny Day Real Estate's Song for an Angel, as requsted by Briks. Hopefully, no reptilian creatures will delay it. But for now, I wish you a good night.

So we end on something of a sombre note and can only wish Sara aka The Phanastasio a speedy recovery and a happier time ahead. We're all thinkin' of ya girl.

Well, it's a long way back to your home so you had better get started. Though here's a thought: why not stay? Houses are cheap and the place is very friendly once you get to know us, and we're always looking for good writers. Something to consider before you decide to rejoin the rat race...

If you decide not to join our little community we hope you'll stop by again soon and that you continue to enjoy reading our journals. Till next week at the same time,
Toodles!

Thanks, Trollheart! I certainly wasn't expecting that; in fact, I thought that was my worst write-up yet. But the alligator bit is 100% true. Do remind me to tell you about it sometime....

*shakes head*

Apparently my journal doesn't count.

Trollheart 03-24-2014 11:35 AM

Sorry about that man: checked the last page and it was just comments. Forgot to go further back. Will include it in this week's with an apology.

(Still, if you updated regularly this wouldn't happen!) :nono:

Psychedub Dude 03-25-2014 08:26 AM

Haha yeah I know im a lag with the journals my bad but thanks for the shout out Trollheart :thumb:

Update for week ending March 30 2014

Hard to believe we're already into the last update for March: doesn't seem that long ago that I was talking about the last update for February and the first for March combined. Now we're a quarter of the way into the year already. Doesn't time fly? And yes, I know I'm late again...
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_R0ADdFRQuU...wonderland.gif

So what's been happening down at Journaltown, as March draws to a close and ushers in April, and we get closer to summer again?

Anteater continues his journey back into childhood, looking at the music that influenced him when growing up in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...n-dollars.html, with this week's subject being electronic music. So bands like Tangerine Dream. Thievery Corporation and Enigma are the order of the day

while Briks is more a metal guy --- sometimes --- and is looking at Pentagram, Bathory and, um, the Beatles? Wander on down to http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...seur-cave.html to find out what it's all about.

And we have a new journal! But not just any journal, oh no. Frownland, of all people, is giving us the benefit of his, ah, eclectic taste in music. Why not spend some time http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...wnapilago.html with him? This first week you'll be listening to the music of Peter Brotzmann... hey, I told you his taste was eclectic!

There's always something interesting in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html: you'd wonder how Goofle gets the time to listen to all this music? Perhaps he's running the same multi-tasking software that allows my brain to keep so many journals going at ... ah. I've said too much. Just pretend the last few seconds didn't happen okay? As for Goofle, music abounds as I say: Freddie Gibbs, Maroon 5, CunnyLinguists, St. Vincent, Kylie, Bast ... the man never stops!

http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ly-review.html is in full flow now, and this week Pet Sounds is dissecting the lyrics from such artistes as Sunny Day Real Estate, Joan Jett, Coldplay and Gloria Gaynor. Interesting to say the least.

And now a special mention for, and apology to, Plankton, whose journal entry I somehow missed out last week. So to redress this I'm posting it this week. So what's it [ur]http://www.musicbanter.com/members-journal/63955-chum-bucket.html[/url] you ask? Another part of his story on the road to becoming a great guitarist, with artistes like Rush, Metal Church and Yngwie Malmsteen featured, and a chilling look into what could have been a very short future for the guy...

Another cool acoustic guitarist featured in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ool-stuff.html, where Psychedub Dude introduces us to Japanese virtuoso LonlonJP

while Silenzio tells us about Orquestra de Enrique Jorrin, World's End Girlfriend and Nils Frahm in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mix-music.html.

And now to me. I've been trying to give some love to the journals that I've been neglecting while I concentrate on my two main ones, so this week sees the return of http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...i-reviews.html, with reviews of albums from The War on Drugs and Cloud Nothings, while in the usual spot there's a lot happening at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html, with reviews of albums by When Bitter Spring Sleeps and Verbal Delirium, as well as a new section called “Trollheart's Bookshelf”, featuring great or just my favourite writers, and kicking off with the master of the macabre himself, Edgar Allan Poe.

More Babylon 5 for you in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html, and a brand new, never-before-seen (so far as I know) feature being planned for there soon, so stay tuned. Not happy with five journals on the go, I've started another one, but this one was necessary as I fall into http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...azz-blues.html, where I finally get to explore the genre I've had no time for, with a review to start off of the classic Miles Davis album, “Kind of blue”.

Unknown Soldier sees us out this week as 1981 continues to bring to the fore great bands and also incite hot debate in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...y-history.html. Featured acts this week include Van Halen, Venom and Raven. Aw! Shoulda done Vardis, then we'd have had the three “V”s!

Notable absences this week from Ki, Urban and if anyone knows the whereabouts of The Batlord please buy him a ticket home to Journaltown! We miss his crazy writing here!

To complete my apology for overlooking his post last week, Plankton is this week's

Chapter 6 - They Call Me The Breeze

Upon awakening, I found myself staring blurry eyed out the window of the Trailways Bus. The one thing I noticed right off is that something had happened to the road. I couldn't see anything but mist and the tops of some of the trees, and it appeared as if the bus had somehow transformed into a small low flying aircraft (which would have been fine with me given the circumstances), but after further investigation I found that we had swerved to avoid hitting something and just missed tumbling off the side of the Rocky Mountains. Most of the other passengers were asleep, and the few that were still awake at 3am were too distracted to notice how close we had just come to our demise. I checked my trusty Walkman to discover that I had fallen asleep to side B of Grace Under Pressure by Rush, and after some soul searching combined with checking my pants for any bodily fluids that may have expelled from being awakened to such a traumatizing site, I turned the cassette over and pressed play.

After quitting our dishwashing jobs and collecting our last paychecks, a friend and I decided we were going to be Rock Stars. A simple plan. Take our money, buy one-way bus tickets from Chicago to L.A., get in a band and become famous. What aspiring 19 year old guitarist hasn't thought about this scenario. We were bound to make it happen. For myself, I was escaping the clutches of my family, who were hell bent on getting me into the military. I had taken the ASVAB, and had scored high enough that I had recruiters coming out of the woodwork, namely Air Force recruiters which are of the smart, and snidely sort. I wasn't having any of it. As for my friend Ed, he was coming from a life of alcoholic parents, and daily beatings. The physical, as well as the psychological types of the kind. I had been teaching Ed guitar for the most part, as I could play Fade to Black, and he couldn't, so was the natural selection of guitar players as to what the hierarchy was. We found our environment despicable, so we made an attempt to change it, and we managed to do just that. Whether it was for the better, or for the good remains to be scene at this point, but what sticks with me are my musical companions I took with me on this fateful journey... well besides Ed. I had left most of my possessions at home, save for my guitar, some clothes, my Walkman, and a few select cassettes.

Rush, Metal Church, and Yngwie Malmsteen were the only connectors that would tie me back to my home. It had been a day and a half of a 3 day ride, and I was already home-sick.

Hope that sorts us out, man. We cool? ;)

And that brings to a close another journal update thread, the last for March. Only 289 shopping days to Christmas you know! OW! Ok, ok, I'm going...

Till next week at the same time (hopefully on time)
Toodles!

It's unfortunate but I just don't have much time to post a whole lot. Plus, not a whole lot of motivation to keep my journals going at the moment.

Not a problem man: you've done more work than most in the recent past. I just remarked upon it because of that very fact. But you take a break. Your journal is definitely popular though so I hope you get back to it at some point, before I steal all your new ideas! ;)

Absolutely Mr T. I know it's quite a bit of work, and some things will fall through the cracks. I had no problem with being skipped last week, as it's perfectly understandable. I was just giving you some grief.

Keep on keepin on my friend.
