Something something practice what you preach, guy that took two pages of coaxing before giving any actual musical opinion.

Once again, it's been awful durn quiet round these here parts. If it wasn't for the valiant few keeping us going, sure I wouldn't have anything to update you on. And then there's my usual contributions of course. What? You don't want to read about my journals? Well tough, cos you're going to. But first...

After a rather odd week which resulted in a perma-ban for The Batlord, he quickly returned, and it's just as well, as he has Deathcore Month (or is it week?) to prepare in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ite-about.html. Kicking off with some colourful bands – The Red Chord, the Black Dahlia Murder – then alliteration comes into play with Despised Icon and Deadwater Drowning. None of which interests me, but if you're into Deathcore – well, he's not exactly enthusing over it, but he is doing something over it ... A fun read, as always.

There's certainly fun to be had in Batty's journal, but just http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...obably-dl.html and number 93 on Goofle's list is Dangerous Woman from Ariana Grande.

Meanwhile there's a mystery going on in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nnerspace.html, where innerspaceboy is trying to get us to guess the title of the book he is excited about finally tracking down. Oh, and Weird Al, too. This guy is just plain nuts, probaby why we love him.

There are game symphonies in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...usic-hall.html while in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...is-arcade.html he's introducing us to Danny Baranowsky. Who? Well apparently he created the soundtrack to some rad games, such as Crypt of the NecroDancer, The Binding of Isaac (remember Ki going on about this game a few years back) and Super Meat Boy. Oh, and Ki's Picks are coming up too...

Neapolitan is checking out Middle Class in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...dern-rock.html

And once again one of my journals subdivides. This time it's http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html, where we're saying goodbye to the “cinematic” part of the title and moving all the films to a separate journal, while here we're checking out the latest episodes from Futurama. http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-2000-ad.html takes us into the weird, darkly disturbing yet funny world of Nemesis the Warlock, while we go back “Over the Garden Wall” in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ive-metal.html to sample Dracula's Music Cabinet and Catherine Ribeiro, returning in time to check out Renaissance's debut. Getting close to the end of 1969 now. http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...i-reviews.html makes a welcome (?) return in a changed format, with reviews (as such) of albums by, among others, Casting Crowns, If These Trees Could Talk and Low. Moving on to the dreaded Beefheart in The Great Discography Project over at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html while my new offshoot journal, http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ox-office.html has reprints of Dust Devil, Dark Star, The Odd Couple and Downfall, and finally there's a new journal from me as I explore the history of classical music in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...c-journal.html.

Zero is back to close us out with http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nal-sound.html.

and speaking of my fellow Irishman

After a year away, it's his journal that wins the award this week. He's having a little writer's block apparently, so hopefully that will clear up and we'll be hearing from him again real soon.

No contest for this week's
Funniest Post

of the Week!

Although he didn't update his journal as such, this post from Justthefacts says more about him than you ever want to know. Add in the fact that it was his first post in five months, and well, there just is no other possible winner, is there?

Anyone remember Lucky Girl? Thought not. Let me refresh your memory: she was the one who seemed to be copying material verbatim from Wiki and using that as her pathetic excuse for entries in what she laughingly called her journal. Challenged on it, she continued to do this and then decided to convert us all to Christianity instead. Needless to say she was laughed at, though I suppose in fairness if nothing else her journal did excite some interest, even if it was only people checking in to talk to each other about her poor entries and how she might be a sockpuppet. At any rate, she didn't last, as you can see from the below, and just as well too. Who needs another religious nut telling us how to live our lives? Which reminds me: can I interest you in this six-DVD introduction to the Church of Trollheart?

Graveyard Ranking: Just a hole in the ground, not even a marker, not even a wooden cross. Perhaps not even a hole; she and her crappy attempt at a journal may just have been consigned to the flames. Would be the most interesting thing that ever happened to it.

And so we end another update. See you all again in seven!
Toodles!

Despised Icon isn't alliteration...

Time to see what's going down in Journaltown! No, I never was down with the kids: it's a constant source of regret for me...

Deathcore Month continues in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ite-about.html where he's looking at (and laughing at) Suicide Silence.

A new journal this week as http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-too-cool.html, and tells us about Scritti Politti, The Cure and Subway Sect. Also Legendary Pink Dots and Mark Berry, better known as Bez, or that wanker with the shakers!

http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nnerspace.html this week come from the KLF as innerspaceboy climbs a mountain and watches the sky, awaiting their prophesied return. Time is running in, apparently. There's also discussion on games, and Batty scores a hit you won't want to miss.

Machine's talking about one of his own songs in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...reciation.html

while Neapolitan continues to explore http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...dern-rock.html with Kosmonautentraum (yeah, they're German)

which is not something you can say of Pinegrove, who feature in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ower-punk.html.

And that takes us back to me. We've moved on to Supertramp in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html, with a return for http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...l-journal.html where we're checking out the first Meat Grinder of the new year while also reprinting the first part of my article on the NWOBHM. http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...c-journal.html gets going with Guillame Dufay and there's another chapter of Watchmen in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-2000-ad.html. Shark Tales are coming in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ox-office.html but until then there's Ingmar Bergman's classic The Seventh Seal to read, and we wrap up 1969 in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ive-metal.html with Amon Duul and It's A Beautiful Day.

Funny Post

of the week
goes to the ICP, the Insane Clown Prince, for trolling poor innerspaceboy on this one:

Yer a bastard, Batty! Hope you're not too emotionally scarred, ISB!

What is that smell? Baldric, have you been eating dung again? No? Then it can only be the stench of decay and decomposition that emanates from the area of

. .
This is an example of what I mentioned when I began this little tongue-in-cheek look through some of the less successful attempts at journals here, the instance of someone having a great idea but never following through on it, losing interest or just letting the thing die. On the face of it, quite an interesting journal, but sadly it just never got off the ground. We didn't even get one single album spoken of or discussed or even mentioned in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...your-time.html. We had one post, which advised that albums would be added every Monday and Thursday, one “good luck” post and then nothing. Nada. He's dead, Jim. Never even had a chance to live. Sad.

Graveyard Ranking: Not even a hole in the ground this time. Just, well, nothing at all. A grave that was never even dug.

And that's it for this week.

I see somewhere that Batty called 2012-2013 the Year of the Journal, and indeed, there was a time when it would take me a good hour to go through all the week's entries and write the update. These days however it's taking less and less time. So why am I late with this little update, you ask? Shut up, that's why.

Getting us underway this week is indeed The Batlord and in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ite-about.html he's still going on about Deathcore with All Shall Perish, but still has time to **** on Led Zeppelin...

http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...nnerspace.html this week come from all the way back in 1939, where people seemed to think Hitler was just an annoyance who would soon be dealt with or forgotten. Ah, the strength of hindsight...

in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...is-arcade.html there are reviews of Redout, Runescape and Goldeneye: Source

while Mondo Bungle is talking about Crisis in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-my-life.html

and Neapolitan is looking at Soviet Soviet, Exlovers and Afternoon Naps in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...dern-rock.html while also restarting http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...antiquity.html with Whalefeathers and Michaelangelo.

More than a year after his last post, Occulthawk returns to remind us about http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...cking-out.html with Howard Stelzer.

It's time to get the hell out of the water, and quickly, as we begin Shark Tales in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ox-office.html, with The Reef and Bait getting us underway, while in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html we're leaving Supertramp for now and moving on to Judie Tzuke.

Yep, that's it. Not a whole lot really is it?
See you next week.
Toodles.

This was by far the most disappointing update you've ever written.
