Yeah, despite taking all that time earlier in the week to create and organise the Welcome Thread for New Members, which seems to be getting decent responses, I've still had time to check out all your journals and write this week's update thread.

And here it is.

We start off this week with a brand new journal. Yay! Black Francis invites us to http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...l-journey.html, with much discussion about Nirvana. And Korn. Also Sonic Youth, The Breeders and Nada Surf. Among others. Good start, look forward to more.

Down at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...seur-cave.html Briks is digging into metal still (not literally: he'd need some sort of pneumatically powered machine for that) and finding himself disillusioned with both Ghost and Dragonforce. Well who woulda thought? Ah, I still have a soft spot for the Dragons, no matter what anyone says.

Just before he left on yet another extended trip to Banland, Butthead was writing about more Taking Back Sunday and, well, feminism, one of his favourite hobby horses, in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...therapy-s.html. Badly received by some. Not sure if that's why he got banned, but with a guy like Butthead it could be due to almost anything he said. That guy needs to watch his attitude more closely... Ah, but then he wouldn't be Butthead, would he?

Another new journal starting up this week comes from Carpe Mortem, who is apparently the http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ker-sound.html and is reviewing (with appropriately sailor language) Candlemass's “The 13th sun”.

Goofle's really kickin' it out for http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ening-log.html with albums from (deep breath) Bay Blue, Armand Hammer, Future Islands (boo!), The War on Drugs (yay!), First Aid Kit, Eiffel 65, The Kooks and a whole ton more, as you might expect.

Pet Sounds is slowing down a littel in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ly-review.html with songs only from The Drifters and the Smiths! Wanna buck your ideas up son if you want to stay up here at the top!

There's a follow up to “Forgotten melodies” in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ool-stuff.html

and speaking of melodies (nice segue, huh?) Silenzio is looking into Melody's Echo Chamber in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...mix-music.html as well as the debut solo album from Sigur Ros's Jonsi Birgisson and a jazz album by Concha Buika. Eclectic or what? Oh, she's also just finished, or about to finish, five years of business school, so congratulations on that girl and we wish you all the best in your exams!

Try as you might, there's no way to avoid my journals! I now have SIX of them. No, they're not breeding. At least, I don't think so... I've resurrected some of the more neglected ones this week, so we have the unanticipated return of http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...m-reviews.html, with the new album by Band of Skulls. You want a laugh? Read my attempts to predict what the songs were going to be like! Also making a brief stop by this week is http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...ver-heard.html featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Over at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...d-journal.html there's a review of “Aura” by Asia, another album in the Progarchives Top 100 with Millenium from Poland, and a new section called “Trollheart's Rocking Chair”. It's about ... ah hell. If you're that interested, come on in and find out!

Much happening at http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...-emporium.html too, with the first episodes of “Robin of Sherwood” and “Life on Mars”, plus the finale of “Mayday”, as we finally find out who the killer is. That's shocking enough, but even then there's a last twist... One more journal to tell you about and it's my latest, where in [url]http://www.musicbanter.com/members-journal/76199-nightmare-jazz-street-trollhearts-voyage-into-world-jazz-blues.html[/url,] I start listening to recommendations from people, beginning with “Take five” by Dave Brubeck.

Unknown Soldier brings the curtain down with a flourish, a bang and of course a fistful of guitar solos on this week's update as he explores the music of Samson and Y&T in http://www.musicbanter.com/members-j...y-history.html, and gives the Batlord mixed feelings...

When I first instigated “Post of the week” I didn't say that a post I chose would have to be something I agreed with, just one that caught my attention and was worth drawing yours to. My justification, if any is needed, for choosing this week's to be the post of a man who has been banned, but surely will be back to put more controversy in our lives than a brothel full of MPs or senators! Yeah, it's him: love him or hate him you can't ignore him, and so this is my

Butthead, why do you hate feminists so damn much? Why do you constantly mock Tumblr? Why do you laugh heartily at social activism through social media?? Why do you trash social justice warriors? Why do you loathe professional victims?

It all stems from guilt. Not my guilt, of course, because I have none. I've said in other threads, but I have no shame or guilt with any of my feelings or who I am as a person. I don't feel bad about being White, Straight, Cis-Gendered, Hung, American, etc. The guilt I am referring to comes from the Tumblr tards of the world who bark about 'male/white/cis/whatever privilege" and want people like me to feel guilty about it. If you are one of those people, please take direction from the one and only Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and shove your opinions straight up your candy ass. You people are as smart as a bag of cheese curls.

Because I am privileged enough to have a social life, family life, and work environment where I very rarely run into one of these turds-for-brains, most of my interaction with these fools comes via the internet, and strangely enough they usually aren't even interactions at all. More often than not, it's me reading an article or comment on Facebook/Twitter/Reddit. For that, I feel fortunate, and though I realize the pointlessness of allowing my jim jims to become slightly rustled, this is my journal and I just want to vent.

So, back to the guilt tripping. The main agenda of the internet armchair activists is mainly two things. 1) Make people like me feel guilty and 2) Discredit the hard work and success of people like me. It's so obvious once you break past the walls of stupidity and wade through the trenches of hypocrisy and irony. These people will never admit that because they have convinced themselves it's not true through the power of the hivemind and their strength in numbers.

Dumbasses

In the rare event that a young man or child is reading my journal, I will present you this warning about the internet: Nobody who mentions your privilege is being genuine or sincere. The reason privilege is brought up at all is because of the two reasons I listed above the picture of the two white guilt losers. It's a way for someone with a loser lifestyle to justify their shitty life to themselves, while at the same time discrediting any hard work you've done. I know I shouldn't, but I do take it personally because I know the hard work I've put in through many years to get where I'm at in life. My hardships aren't on par with any starving Ethiopians or Congo War victims, but I know how hard it was to get from A to B and I'm a proud person. You can actually be proud of yourself while still acknowledging that people helped you along the way. Who would have guessed?!?!

The idea is to subtly trivialize your success and chalk it up to privilege and luck. Which is ironic, because the very fact we are using the internet makes us all extremely privileged. Of course, these shart stains can't realize that because they have developed a victim complex and can't see themselves in any light that isn't dimly oppressive. They almost always lack a solid perspective and aren't able to see the big picture because of the blinders of pseudo-oppression.

Not everyone is created equal. Some people have hardships that are nearly impossible to overcome. Some people are born into terrible situations. I recognize all of these things. But living life as a victim will never get anyone anywhere - it's unhealthy and unproductive. Dwelling on what you don't have won't get you what you want, it's that simple. So, a lot of this BS I'm talking about comes from that victim complex, which whether it's actually more prevalent or just seems to be, is still harmful for everyone. The problem is that it's convenient for the lazy.

Time to wrap it up for now because I am feeling uninspired and lazy. tl:dr anyone who mentions priv is a loser, ignore them and strive for glory.
And with that I bid you a fond adieu. Remember we're always looking for new journals here --- two started this week and very welcome they are. If you feel the itch, best thing to do is scratch it. Hope to see you around here again, and until next week at the same time,
Toodles!

Thnx for the mention TH

i've never done a musical journal before so it's a learning experience for me.

I've been checking out your Classic album journal, i even wanted to suggest one to you cause i would like to hear your review on it but i was afraid to ask.

i also enjoyed Yorkedaddy's journal, i hope he keeps updating it.

This whole thing of reading journals and making journals is a new thing for me but im digging the experience so far.

Glad you're having a blast Francis! Your journal's pretty good so far. Throw your rec at me, though I have said that I'm going back to my own list for a while. Still, you never know: if it's interesting enough....

Does that mean we'll see some The Queen is Dead soon?

No. I said interesting. Nothing interests me about the Smiths.
Also, I just said throw it my way and I'll see. My own list has suffered as I've entertained people's suggestions and requests over the last few months so in general I'm just concentrating now on the albums I had originally intended to feature, but if something intrigues me enough, you never know...

I'm not sure but I think this calls your prog cred into question. Anybody else wanna weigh in?

And butthead got banned again? I think this is like his third ban so he's gonna be gone for a bit. At least a month I'm assuming.

... and I'm throwing it right back atcha! I'm pretty sure there's one already on the list if you check, and I did stipulate I would only do one from each band...

Um, why? I can like a band everyone else hates if I want. Not saying I'm a huge fan but I don't hate them. Also, what has that to do with prog? If you had said it put my METAL cred into question, fair enough. But prog? I don't think anyone here would deny I know my prog rock...

Place won't be the same without him...

If you can dig such an awful band with such incompetent (nonexistent) songwriting abilities (and this is coming from someone with little to no knowledge or ear for songwriting) then I can only assume that you like Pink Floyd cause they sound pretty. Booyah.
