All around the world there are no doubt millions of teenagers recording generic hip hop like this in their bedrooms, I'm unclear on why this particular one has been singled out as being of interest.

dude you are naive as FUCK if you think there is a bunch of teenagers around the globe rapping like this.

Even if the subject matter is the oh so generic (seriously, "generic" is the right word to describe this?) rape fantasy, it's still done in a creative way. The flow is tight and on point, he doesn't have a whole lot of vocal dexterity, but considering he was 16 when this was released, i really can't criticize it. Most mainstream rappers don't sound nearly this good, and of course that isn't a great comparison, but i feel like it needs to be enforced.

I find the rape fantasy kinda immature, but it's pretty clear its sarcastic, and you can't generalize all the lyrics as being just that. I don't feel like copying and pasting lyrics, but just look them up yourself sometime.

i think people need to get over critiquing mixtapes how they do fully produced albums. This is exciting stuff.

I don't really see a point trying to convince Janszoon that Earl Sweatshirt is worth listening to if he thinks Tyler, the Creator is so bad. I mean I love Earl, and the Radical Mixtape, but Bastard is easily the most consistent and well-produced album that Odd Future has released.

I don't really understand the lyrical assault against them. There's some really clever lines, and even the rape stuff is really tongue-in-cheek. I mean Tyler talks about raping a girl (and eating her heart) for not going to prom with him, do you really think he's being serious and thinking "oh I'm going to shock people?" It's hyperbole, sure it's a bit silly but as Matious pointed out these are teenagers. Teenagers are a bit silly.

The issue with production is really weird to me...I mean the versatility on the production is something of interested, you have French (a very distorted track) and then a really poppy/weird on Seven (this is again, referring to Bastard which I think is the stronger album.)

I kind of want specific examples for what's wrong with the Odd Future collective's music. The only real criticism I have is the issue of quantity vs. quality, because everything they do has it's moments, but it also has it's...well not so good moments.

Is anyone actually complaining about whether he's serious or not? I know I haven't. I just find the lyrics repetitive and blah. There's nothing there to hold my interest. That might not be a problem if the rapping or music were better, but they aren't.

Like with the lyrics, I just find the production boring. I don't hear a lot variety from song to song and it's doesn't feel like much effort went into making good music. It just sounds they started rapping over the first thing they came up with.

Oh okay, you're right. I've seen the light. I'm naive and this music sounds nothing like every other teenage rapper with a myspace page. I truly enjoy the juxtaposition of dull repetitive lyrics with lackluster rapping and half-assed beats. It's so creative!

OFWGKTA'S Radical is pretty top notch in my book. Recently addicted to this track:

Also, from In Odd We Trust:

The beat kind of reminds me of Chrono Trigger :)

This tape is really good. It's very, very, raw and the beats sound great. Earl has crazy lyricism and pretty good charisma, and I laughed out loud on that Wakeup***got skit.

I don't much care for the sexual subject matter. It's lost it's shock value to me and is just kind of boring, but aside from that this was really solid.

so it's three of them in the group Odd Future?

i can understand you not liking the beats, but if you can't appreciate the rapping then you truly are naive. You seriously think that there are "millions" of other teenagers who can rap like this? You'd be hard pressed to find 20. Maybe you should try this record again and actually LISTEN instead of letting your preconceptions dictate what you think.

Do you actually know what the word naive means? Just curious.
