And this is why we should be able to get into a dialog. My issue with your post was that you apparently dismiss anyone's right to be critical of other people's art. And which is precisely the point of T&S's post. Yes, anyone has a right to make art, and anyone is entitled to criticise it, in this particular case, because they feel it propagates hate and intolerance and of which the majority of people seem to turn a blind eye, ignoring the possible, or rather, probable effects such art creates.

Some people are. Some people are idiots with a minimal capacity for critical thought, who might actually find justification for their prejudice in what they hear on their stereos. It's called herd mentality.

the hate and prejudice that you are interpreting is only what you are getting from the lyrics while another listener isn't getting that same thing from it.
You may feel that's what the lyrics are representing and that's what the artist means by said lyrics but until you hear from the artist their reasoning behind the lyrics then I think it's a bit hasty to make that assumption

Yes, let's all make a collective effort to decipher what this master of satire actually meant with his reply to the T&S post:

I'd like to hear what you think he means by that.

I don't dismiss anyone's right to be critical of other people's art. I just think Tegan & Sara are "taking a stand" in an incredibly shallow way which deserves a bit of mocking. |

Personally I don't see a reason for mocking their view... They are gay women, I'd expect them to be offended by a large amount of Tyler's lyrics talking about 'faggots' and raping women. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with their view, honestly. If someone was getting national recognition and rapped about 'killing niggers' I imagine the black response would be highly critical and the black community would probably going apeshit about it. But I doubt anyone would mock them.
