Technically no but effectively yes. There are other political parties but the democrats and republicans so thoroughly control everything no one else really has any power.

And third party candidates, as we call them, have to go through a lot more obstacles to be able to get in office than if they ran as Republicans or Democrats. It's the main reason people like Ron Paul join the GOP even when their ideologies heavily conflict with their opponents in the same party.

it really is. When I first joined I never envisioned myself as a bitter older member. But now at age 21, I feel like I need my veteran badge and sedative to get me through reading the Spill Your Guts Thread.
