I think there is a difference between racism and naturally fitting in/grouping with people who you share things in common with (same reason there are cliques in middle school and HS based around music/culture). And yes, I know exactly who you're talking about, I'm the only person I know who isn't like that. Fake a$$ white people everywhere.
|
i'm not just talking about music cliques or whatever. i'm saying that people make assumptions about other people all the time based on race, sex, appearance, religion, etc. anyone who says they don't is either a saint or a liar. to me, at its core, that's basically what racism boils down to. a sort of tribal mentality. it was useful once upon a time when we were in actual tribes and now it is just a sort of vestigial artifact that still manifests itself in our behavior. there are varying degrees to it and so basically the best you can hope for is to keep it in check. that's why i say it isn't just you are or you aren't.

Okay, I could see that. I think it has a lot to do with how your raised also, and how much cultural variety you are subjected to at an early age, but I can't really argue with the general idea of what you are saying.
I can honestly say I am a saint for the most part, but I have my moments depending on where I am or what the person looks like. Although I'm not sure if that's my subconscious or just life experience kicking in. |
Batlord - I feel objectified by your going on about my moustache. Like, I have a beard too, asshole.
