really, what ****s me up is all the arbitrary **** they want you to memorize for these certifications. i like messing around with networks and **** like that but then there is some truly boring arbitrary **** that they want me to memorize. it seems to me like the people who design the exams don't know that google exists.

Know that the exams and tests are nowhere near the requirement. You can do this job without them based solely on experience. I worked IT for 6 years in the Army and then went to college for it after I got out, and to be totally honest with you, I've learned more in the last two years of my job than the previous 8, easily. I'm not really sure where you're at in terms of the IT business, but if there's one thing that's for sure, the ability comes from doing. And f*cking up. And unf*cking it. Again and again and again. Until you know.
I guess it's like any other thing.
