maybe something got lost in the context here.the putting down was 35 bucks. i don't resent that. i agree it's better to put them down. i spent 70 bucks for the doctor to look at the cat, give it some shots and tell me that its bum eye is basically scar tissue. i wasted the 70 cause then we killed the cat 2 weeks later.

edit - i honestly wish i never mentioned this cat.

How about you stop using the word kill?

Key 11-26-2014 10:29 PM

Can we go back to spilling our guts? Whatever is going on here makes no sense.

well that makes a little more sense (and I thought that was a bit high for compassionate death).

my parents went through something similar when my childhood cat (he lived to be 13 years old - 1999-2012) was starting to deteriorate. He had something going on with his eye and it became infected somehow, so it was decided that they would remove it (which would have been horrifying) and when they were inserting some sort of respiration tube (after they sedated him) they found that he had a giant mass in his esophagus. It was cancer.

he'd lost a bunch of his teeth despite regular cleanings and checkups, had a lot of digestive issues but they always figured it was just due to his age.

my parents thought on it for an afternoon.

he passed away in the blanket I sent him for Christmas; my parents had him cremated.

the vet wasted a lot of my dad's money despite the fact that there was nothing they could do to help the cat but the thing that hurt the most was knowing that he wasn't happy, or healthy. My dad isn't a wealthy man by any means at all, but he didn't mourn the money that was poured into the cat. He mourned the loss of his cat.

I just think he meant for the sensitivity of the topic at hand being a cat being out down, maybe replacing the word kill with "put down" is a bit easier to take in. Not saying what you should do, but I think that's what Chula was getting at.

yeah, for real, ****'s getting depressing in here.

so Chula Vista's a cool guy, knows a lot about a lot, probably has some awesome stories to tell about everything.

Getting to know Neapolitan in plug lately has been really cool.

WD's still my bud, probably the only person that's gonna get a card from me this Christmas.

Batlord's still a hilarious pain in the ass.

Of course I agree that any living creature should be compassionately laid to rest when the odds aren't in their favor (e.g.; terminal illness) because prolonged suffering of a living being for the sake of its loved ones is selfish. It's selfish to keep them alive if their quality of life has been so greatly diminished that they can't enjoy it anymore.

I hope JWB's mother doesn't get snubbed if she chooses voluntary euthanization, should she become ill with something that will ultimately destroy her in an aggressive, excruciating manner.

The point is, it doesn't matter the species; suffering is suffering. Love and compassion are necessary in the care of every living thing. JWB, being the stoic he is, doesn't understand this.

Maybe I read it wrong but I thought he was saying that putting a pet down when it's time for it to die is the right thing to do (as opposed to selfishly keeping it alive, b/c he doesn't want loved ones to suffer pointlessly). I agree with that. I don't know his mother but I hope she dies well, I think we all 3 agree on that. If he was saying something different then **** him, I don't know.

I don't know anymore either but for the sake of keeping up with the point of this thread, I think I should tell you that you seem like a kind human and I enjoy your posts.
